Graduation run and something amazing happened!

This evening I completed my graduation run and I have to admit to feeling proud of myself. I am 64, and hadn't run or taken any proper exercise for decades until May this year when I was given running gear as a birthday present by my kids, Best present ever! Up until today, towards the end of the run I found myself desperately wanting Sarah Millican to say "that's it, you can slow down for your five minute warm down walk" or words to that effect, but today I got to the end of the 30 mins and just kept on running for another five minutes! What a great moment to get an unexpected energy burst.

Sorry if this sounds like boasting, but that's not what it is, I'm just chuffed bits and want to share my enthusiasm to encourage others. Yahoo!

Terrific work Ray, it’s not boasting at all. 🙂 You’re right to be proud of your achievement and it shows what we all can do if we put our mind to it 👍

Hopefully everyone will realise just what they can do if they follow your example. 😀

Just one word of caution- take it slow and steady and try not to let your enthusiasm carry you away. We’ve all been there and it’s another lesson we all need to learn from time to time.

Having said that, you’ve done superbly so good luck for the future. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

Mighty fine job! And you’re so allowed to say “look at what I’ve done” here... it inspires those nearing week 9, those struggling in the middle, and most importantly those looking at this forum and thinking about starting, with that self doubt in their heads.

Shout it loud and proud from the highest rooftop, you did this, we can too.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Brilliant! Do you think you might do a park run? 🤔

Park run is definitely on the cards soon. I managed 5k on my 35 min run, so should be OK. I am still finding it hard to believe!

Thanks again everyone, I am so grateful for all the replies and comments. I struggled at week 7, and had to re-run two of the days, so don't be put off if you don't manage first time. Good luck to all, and whatever stage you are at in the programme - keep it up!

Just reviving my old thread. A year or so on and after suffering an achilles injury last autumn, I started running again in January and have now completed 30 parkruns at times ranging from 33 to 38 minutes. Once again, not boasting, but it just shows what can be done with determination, despite being of pensionable age! (still working though). I find parkrunners to be such a friendly bunch and that spurs me on even more. Good luck all.
