Graduation pressie to me

I went for a gait analysis today - I have one perfect leg with perfect gait! 😇

Unfortunately the other one (the one Ive had the hip, calf, ankle, arch niggles with) is wonky and needs more support.

After trying a few shoes I ended up with these - bit of a Goldilocks scenario - too little support, too much support (for my good leg), just right!

Hopefully the investment price tag will keep me running and I will be bounding along like tigger!

One downside is that none of my tops match my shoes now ........

Beautiful! Saucony Everun! 👍😁 comfy! Lovely colour... I'm sure I've seen some great tops that colour. 😉

Happy new shoes! 👏

Love them! Sounds like they did a thorough job with the gait analysis 👍🏼

The (young) guy was really sweet and supportive. I did say I’d just finished c25k and he was asking if I’d done it alone/ with a club etc. I didn’t feel intimidated. Before I went in I did wonder if they’d think what’s this middle aged woman doing in here, she’s not a proper runner etc etc but he put me at my ease (despite me having a flush - I’m sure he thought how unfit is she! Sweating just after 20s on the treadmill!)

Bit odd watching my back end on the video of the treadmill - but my science background appreciated the angles being drawn on my legs and all the explanations regarding how the shoes compensated 😂

He sounds lovely. It's my next job to do but I am apprehensive for all the same reasons. I'm glad you had a good experience, it's very encouraging!!

I Bought the same shoes! I have a dodgy right foot and an ankle that pronates. This was causing me real problems with after a week 6 run a calf muscle tear- and then no running for 4 weeks!

These shoes have been amazing ! No calf problems and still running! Can’t seem to get me going any faster though!😉

Gorgeous shoes. Lovely colour. Hope they settle the niggles.

My shoes don’t go with anything I wear but I figured with dark shorts it would break things up enough whatever I wear on top.

My current kit is more brights - need to add some pastels 😜

None of my running gear matches my runners! I don't mind that. I love my runners!

They are a thing of beauty indeed! Congrats, lovely purchase, I wish you many happy running miles in them. I see a shopping opportunity for matching kit for the top 😀

Why don't running shops start to put together a complete "look" so we don't have to make decisions? :-)

Lovely shoes! Who cares whether or not your running gear matches your shoes? 🙂This isn’t a fashion show after all 😀😊 Let us know how you get on with them anyway 🙂

If nothing else, it’s a good excuse/reason to invest in more things to wear if you want to 😂🤣

Hmmm that's really interesting Crittermad, and explains why you were having niggles...

This will be helpful to others who are maybe having problems. A gait analysis is a good, worthwhile thing to have done too, the solution may just be down to getting the correct support.

Happy running in your new runners!😊x

Your post was very reassuring! I am going to a shop for a gait analysis and I am nervous the staff will be inwardly sniggering at a fat fifty year old claiming to be a runner! But what the heck!

Snoozysuz profile image

I am a fat 50 year old just starting week 2 of c25k and I went to runners need for a gait analysis as I knew I over pronate from years of inner soles and podiatrist treatment so didn't want to start off wrong...They were really helpful, gave me good advice on what I needed and running techniques and local groups I could join...yes watching my rear view on a laptop wasn't pleasant but it helped to get the right shoes. I got a pair of black Brooks which I love and fit great. They offer a bespoke inner sole making service which I may treat myself to once I complete week 9 😊

Lovely shoes! And an awesome excuse to buy some pastel coloured running tops. Im feeling an ice cream sundae vibe....🍧but I think that’s Jay66UK ’s fault for all the fruit pastille talk.

I need to get my gait analysis done- I’ve always just gone for the colours I like best 😂😂😂 ( very scientific). I’ve entered the Cardiff 10 k which gives me 10% off at Run and Become. They do gait analysis by getting you to run up and down outside. So, if anyone is in St Mary St Cardiff and sees a middle aged woman wobbling up and down the street and thinks ‘I could WALK faster than she’s running’ - that woman might be me!!

Happy less lopsided running xxx

We could have gone together! - I did wander over that way but st marys was very busy and hot so I bailed and went to the store in the arcade

The only answer is to buy new tops 😂😂. They look great, enjoy running in them x

Hi there - can I ask which shop you can get this test done? #truenovice

Crittermad profile image
CrittermadGraduate in reply to OKES

I just put ‘gait analysis cardiff’ in google and some options came up - sure it will if you try for your location. Tend to be specialist running shops rather than sports chains

MelsieJay profile image
MelsieJayGraduate

🍾🎉for graduation! They are lovely and we have a resident sports attire expert here, Jay66UK ,who loves browsing (and buying) kit so enlist him as your advisor! We soon won’t know which way up you are you will be so matching.

Seriously they are very nice shoes and I’d love to know which shop you got the analysis done. I think when my leg heals, if

I can still run, I will do that cos I imagine I won’t have the perfect legs I never had before I broke one (🙄) and it will be essential to moral as well as sensible to prevent more injuries. It was really good to hear your positive experience cos they will be calling the marine biologists and hosing me back out to sea when I go in!!

How long are you on IC for ? I am going stir crazy after1 week and have another 11 stretching ahead of me. Can’t even drive anywhere. I didn’t realise how much I am an out and about person till now.

I keep getting told “ oh you can lie in the sun and relax” MY IDEA OF HELL!!

MelsieJay profile image
MelsieJayGraduate in reply to limberlou

I know. Me too. Even the smallest task becomes a massive effort. I don’t know till I go to the fracture clinic later this week. Bit of a joke nearly 3 weeks after the break. I’m hating being contained and don’t enjoy sitting in the sun although the shade is delightful in this warmth. X

Crittermad profile image
CrittermadGraduate in reply to MelsieJay

😂 I think that sounds like a good idea - you may run differently after you heal. I literally just googled gait analysis and my city and there were a couple of options. The place I went was a specialist running/triathlon shop - so a bit daunting as I went in - but very helpful

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate

Obviously new tops needed then. Lovely !!

I feel your pain - however, m & s have their sale on, and they have a decent range of sports gear in it!!

I’ve got mint green trainers too - nothing goes with them, but who cares if they work! (My teenage niece tells me mint green is very trendy at the moment...) 😊❤️👟

You were obviously ahead of the curve - trendsetter! I’m just following in your wake

mountaindreamer profile image
mountaindreamerGraduate in reply to Crittermad

😂😂 Sadly no trendsetting or even gait analysis going on here, Crittermad! I bought them sometime before C25k, when looking for good shock absorption, and what was on offer at our local outlet Adidas shop! I’ve managed without gait analysis so far, but will sensibly follow you guys there if I start getting any issues once I try to up the distance.

Jujitzu profile image

I’m off for my gait analysis tomorrow. Glad to hear yours went well. I’m dreading the price tag but you I’m sure it’s the right move.

Crittermad profile image
CrittermadGraduate in reply to Jujitzu

My friend always justifies spending on clothes/shoes etc on a cost per use basis - I guess we just need to make them good value. On a positive- I ran in them today and apart from a bit of toe numbing (think the laces were too tight) they felt much more cushioned than my old shoe, I felt like my legs had a little bit more return in them and for the first time my calves were soft and relaxed after the run (and have been all day) instead of rock solid, crampy and swollen
