A little chest pain

i am three weeks with no cigarette. I did week 1 run two but i could not finish. My chest hurts. I guess i need to go see my doctor. Not sure if anyone else has been in that place with advice. It's extremely hot here with high humidity. I will try again on Tuesday night

Seeing your doctor sounds like a good idea but your chest pain is prob related to you stopping...that is a fantastic acheivement..we all know smoking kills so you are on an upward journey from here...we’re all here, all the time, for support...stopping smoking is proper hard, stick with it, you will get through xx

i think you are right. I do not have pain except when running. I will wait a day and then go at it again. I am only three weeks quit. I'm so ready for my endurance to be better. I may be on week for two weeks......

If in doubt check it out. Chest pain that is new should be checked especially if your doing something you are not used to. In The long run you will find it easier to run if you are not worried. I used to have chest pains when I started and went to my Gp a little ecg put my mind at ease.

the fact that your doing the programme at all is a real acheivement....better to take it all at your own pace, you’ll enjoy it much more...it’s not the amount of time it takes, it’s what you’re doing during that time that matters x

You will get there, all takes time whether smoker, ex-smoker or non smoker. So take it nice and easy, slow and steady. Good luck and well done - amazing you 🌟

Chest pain can be caused by all manner of things including muscles being used differently from before. But as the others say it’s not something to ignore. Let us know how you get on with the medics.

There's chest pain and chest pain... there's the 'my lungs are going to burst because of the effort' which most of us experience at times. The keen and competitive ones always will when going for a personal best or racing. During C25k, the focus is all on competing the duration so backing right off on the pace will help (it really doesn't matter if you're not even brisk walking pace).

Anything else... describe it in as much detail as you can and check it out with a medic.

I had some chest pain checked out last week. 1 echocardiogram, 2 EKGs, a stress test and several lab draws later and i have an enlarged heart from my decades long battle with high blood pressure. NO blockages were found. They cut one of my BP meds in half and I feel tons better and no more chest pain. All those meds were holding my HR too low, which seems to have been the problem.

Getting the ticker an official stamp of approval is great, I no longer think I might throw a rod if I push it a bit. I can go as hard as I want instead of as hard as I dare

I found the Stop Smoking service at my doctors surgery really helpful. They are able to provide prescriptions for nicotine replacement and are really supportive.

See your GP before doing anymore running especially as your chest pain is exercise induced. Please don’t ignore this, it may be nothing to worry about but best to be on the safe side.

i am just sticking with lifting weights and riding my bike. It doesn't cause the same issues at all. I am only three weeks quit. I most likely need to be easy with my lungs.
