W7R2- NOT feeling the love!

I love it when my daughter comes running with me. I love running along the canal, waving to the passing boats. I love the sun and cooling breeze. I love returning home for a delicious breakfast. I love the smug feeling after finishing my exercise by 10am. ❤️🌞👩‍👧

However, I did not love this run...

This was unexpected, as the previous run had been great, at a faster pace and (inadvertently) a slightly longer time and I couldn’t wait for this one. The first 10-15 minutes were quite comfortable, but then I developed stitches in my abdomen which didn’t ease with slowing or breathing deeply. I nearly stopped. My feet grazed the tops of the grass as I shuffled to the end, holding my stomach!

The differences between these 2 runs, were that W7R1 was in the town in the evening, and this was on an uneven tow path before breakfast. Should this make much of an impact do you think? Any advice on getting rid, or avoiding stitches altogether?

I hope the next run is better. 🤞🏻

I personally find my runs more difficult at the end of the day after I’ve eaten. I enjoy it much more to run a couple of hours after I get up and before eating anything, but everyone’s body is different.

I wouldn’t think where you ran made a difference. So you’d think it’s down to the time of day or the lack of food. But maybe it could be something from the day before...

Did you have a busy day the day before?

Did you have a good nights restful sleep?

Did you drink enough the day before, factoring in that in this weather you need more than usual?

Did you eat healthily the evening before?

I think you’ll find that this will be a one off, just put it down to being “one of those runs” but if you had a large salty/greasy meal and a few cheeky glasses staying up till 1am then tried to run the next morning that could be your answer 🙂

Good advice.

Thanks for your suggestions. At the moment every day is a busy day as the children have so much on this term! I find my running time is a chance to switch off mentally.

The most likely culprit was probably not good enough hydration due to this hot weather. I’m trying to be ‘good’ in terms of diet and sleep even more now that I’m getting into my running!

Ooo stitches are awful and the feet dragging on the ground feels like your not hydrated enough. To be blunt but in a purely biological way I make sure I drink till my pee runs clear the night before then another pint an hour before I go for a run. The heat will sap your water levels so keep sipping and try not to eat big meals before your runs . You will have good runs one day and sometimes not so good ones the next , that’s the way of things . The main thing is your doing it and you will be better for it. Keep going ! We believe in you !👍👍👍👍
