Finally wore the capris pants I’ve been hiding in the cupboard for the last 3 weeks and the world continues to turn! Nobody died! Nobody stopped pointed and laughed and said, β€˜stop, you’re 47 and two stone overweight!!’ Felt so much cooler in them too, wish I’d done it weeks ago.

In the whole 6 months I’ve been doing this, I’ve not made eye contact with another soul whilst out running . I’ve been very much, β€˜shades on, (whatever the weather!!) eyes down and off we go.’ I’ve just felt too self conscious to even look at the people passing me, worried I’d see eyes filled with derision. Spurred on by comments from some of you about what a lovely bunch other runners are are how people are always smiling and waving at you I finally took the plunge! Spotted a friendly looking and whippet like lady of similar age springing towards me, I lifted my eyes hesitantly, corners of my mouth starting to turn up. Guess what? She was already smiling at me, a big beaming grin! Runners are lovely!

A great run today, hadn’t run in a week because a thigh niggle had turned into a pain. Think I’d pushed myself too far too soon by running 5k a couple of times. Just stuck to the 30 minutes today, 4.1k. Think I’m just going to carry on consolidating the 30 minute runs for a while now. Feeling very, very, happy 😎

I know what you mean, I always thought I wouldn't dare run outside or go to a gyn, now I couldn't care less, very liberating

well done for not caring! I used to go out in a fleece and bobble hat very early so I wasn't spotted but now I too dont care and wear what I want. Have regulalry met the local council street and bin cleaners plus a few runners and dog walkers we all greet , its friendly out there and nobody really looks at what you wear

Congratulations! When you can throw your self consciousness in the bin it makes you far more relaxed! Tricky to do though. Love your runners! πŸ˜ƒ

Well done. Hopefully more will join you. Shorts aren’t that big a leap from capris, you know...

One step at a time Jay! Haven’t worn shorts shorts anywhere since about 2006 πŸ˜‚

I know what you mean! When I started this running malarkey I was a bit nervous, mainly to do with my self confidence. Would people laugh! etc .But now if I’m not out running when I see folks next time they ask have I stopped running ?, Are you still running? you know the kind of thing. So now that lack of confidence has gone. I think it’s so liberating to get out there and run!!

So keep up the great work and happy running!πŸ˜€πŸ˜€
