Park Runs - When did you start?

Hey!

So I've made a start on Week 4 which, even with the heat, was easier than week 3 so far.

However what I want to know is when did people start running at the Park Runs?

My boyfriend goes with his friends and family and is really keen for me to join them. I'd like to go but wanted to make a good start on this first so I could at least run for a brief period at least!

What are your experiences with starting park runs and what tips/advice can you give for them too?

Hi I didn’t go till week 9 but others have gone sooner. You could just do your ‘run’ in the park run and walk the remaining time? Plenty walk parts/whole thing.

That's a good suggestion...especially as my boyfriend always encourages extra short runs post app run as we head back to his.

Its good to know several others walk too!

You’ll be surprised at the park run what different abilities there are. Enjoy. 😊

How did you find it? I'm certainly considering it. Also, when did you start the app? Did you do your warm up at the start of the run? Of beforehand and pause it?

Of course it was hard, but got motivation from Marshall's as I went round. Started at the back and did the whole thing including warm-up walk, it's good to do some limbering up beforehand as well..

Okay that's good to know. Start at the back and start walking.

I'll keep stretching in mind!

I didn’t do it until W9 but as Ripcurlrana71 said, many do it earlier.

Very very challenging. But it wasn’t a normal Parkrun in any sense.

Trying to post the link below. If it doesn’t work, click on my picture and scroll through my posts to “My first Parkrun” 🤣🤣🤣

My word! That sounds like it was quite the experience! I'll make sure to keep to small hills at most. But well done for continuing!

It was still enjoyable. Those parkrunners are great people.

They certainly seem to be!

Oh Lordy your account made me chuckle..Lyme Park is sooo hilly, it’s where my dad used to take me sledging when I was little. Well done for surviving, and sharing your tale. Good luck with your next flatter one

Week 1! Walked it all. Then did a session of my c25k each week in it, walking the extra. PB every week for about this first 12!

Fab! Sounds like a positive start. Gives me a bit more courage to go for it.

Definitely. I think once people go, they regret not having gone earlier. There’s no pressure as there’s a tail walker 👌🏽 I love them. Even started making friends there as I’m there every week 👍🏽

I registered for parkrun from around wk4 but never braved it until w9 r2.

I came 799 out of 805 runners at one stage at the beginning I was planning on walking 5 minutes warm up but I was walking with the tail walker until I realised then I started running (more like sped off in embarrassment 🤣🤣🤣) everyone I asked prior to this said "you won't be last, tail walker will always be last"

Almost not 😁🤣😉😊🏃‍♀️🏃

The atmosphere there was amazing and the marshalls were amazing too so supportive 😊✅

That's good to hear on the whole, i'll keep in mind i might be walking with the tail walker at the start, thank you for sharing!

We recommend that you stick to the plan and not get carried away by running the whole distance. There will be plenty of others walking part or all of the route. Warm up well before the talk for new runners, which is essential to understand any issues peculiar to your particular run.

You can register your club as NHS C25k. Do remember to take your barcode with you. Have a great time.

Thank you! I do intend to stick to the plan really. If I do happen to do any extra bits, it's only when I feel recovered and never for very long! But I feel like week 4 provide a good opportunity to run a decent amount.

Good to know about the registering, thank you!
