Hello everybody and welcome to Monday.... its a new day, a new week and a new opportunity to be determined to reach our goals... lets do this.....go!!

I have spent the weekend running in the woods which is my favourite happy thing to do.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion :)

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Have a great week, and enjoy your runs :)

Hey everyone. This week is going to be a light one for me running and forum wise as it’s a mad busy work week. Ran yesterday and plan to run early Wednesday and on Saturday. Making my weekday runs 4ks from here and the weekend a 5k, all aiming towards feeling up to Bridge to 10k later this year.

Also started my diet properly yesterday. Sadly I’d forgotten I have an Italian meal out with colleagues for lunch today!

Have a great week and enjoy your running.

in reply to Jay66UK

You can eat (relatively) healthy in an Italian. Pick tomato based sauces - or grilled meat or fish - without sauce or ask for the sauce on the side so u control how much u have. Stay away from the bread. Good luck - enjoy it.

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate in reply to

Yup. How unhealthy is mozzarella and tomato?

in reply to Jay66UK

It’s not that bad I don’t think. As cheese goes (& I’m a cheese addict) it’s one of the “better” ones. Tomato is fine.

in reply to Jay66UK

Oh well Jay, another day won't make a huge difference, just need to be super-focussed tomorrow not to write of another week. Preparation is key top healthy eating - we'll eat just about anything when we're hungry. Enjoy your meal and good luck for tomorrow 😊

Thanks. I already have my Huel mixed and chilling for my tea when I eventually get home tonight.

in reply to Jay66UK

Huel! This is getting serious!! I use Optimum Nutrition chocolate protein replacement meals when I need to get serious.

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate in reply to

Swapped my lunches at work for Huel - I really like it and it’s a consistent 450 cals. Better than a cheese filled lump

of bread with unknown other fillings.

Berksrover profile image
BerksroverGraduate in reply to Jay66UK

I started dieting at the same time ad I started the C25K, lost just under a stone so far I have a Slimfast meal replacement bar at lunchtime, was dubious at first but for 217 cals they do keep the hunger away, I am much more disciplined now than I used to be and I put that down to the new mental strength achieved in C25K

in reply to Berksrover

Yes, it's hard eating a Mars Bar when you know how hard you've you work to counteract it! 😳

Berksrover profile image
BerksroverGraduate in reply to

Everything in moderation is what I say, mind you I grew up in an era where the healthy eating poster at school extolled the virtue of milk, butter, cheese, sugar, salt and red meat! (Yes I am that old)

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to Jay66UK

What is Huel?

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate in reply to ju-ju-

“A nutritionally complete meal substitute” - oats, pea protein, long list of other things. Make it like a milkshake (but with water).

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to Jay66UK

Oh I see like a smoothie?

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate in reply to ju-ju-

Yup. But it’s a premix powder. You can use it to add, maintain or lose weight by varying how much you use.

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to Jay66UK

Oh I see... not sure I like the sound of that!

Hi I’m a lurker week 6R2 definitely not running three times a week started C25K in March! Is that allowed on the program?

Jay66UK profile image
Jay66UKGraduate in reply to onemdc

It’s really self-directing. To get the best out of it 3 runs a week are recommended. And to graduate you need to do three non-stop 30 min runs in 7 days.

But ultimately this is all for you to decide what you want to do.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate in reply to onemdc

Absolutely!!! Take your time, no rush at all

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to onemdc

I think you have to do what works for you and your life. I am guessing you have done each week at least twice?

onemdc profile image
onemdcGraduate in reply to ju-ju-

No ! I have always completed the runs in sequence just left quite long gaps between each of the runs. I have a Fitbit and do 18000 steps a day! So was finding it difficult to fit it all in. I am now keeping to the required 3 runs a week as I move into the longer runs and will cut down on my walking.

Hi!

Bit of a lurker but trying to be more active!

I'm kicking off week 4 with the first run tomorrow. A little worried about the heat but will keep hydrated and the pace slow!

ccarter100 profile image
ccarter100

My last run (W5R3) was on Wednesday. My back has been yelling at me these last few weeks, so I took myself off to the chiro, a fit athletic gentleman half my age. He said everything looked good; it's "just" muscle soreness as my back gets used to the new activity. I didn't think there was enough sympathy in his tone, but he made up for it with some nice lateral leg exercises to strengthen my thighs and reduce the cramps. Being a conservative gal, I took some extra rest/recovery days to let the complainer get with the program. Per Oldfloss' recommendations, I did lots of stretching and strength exercises (carried laundry hampers up and down steps, did yard work and gardening, vacuumed endless amounts of carpet, and bought a new car). Feeling pretty chipper this morning, I set off in the chilly drizzle for W6R1 at a sloooow pace, and I made it all the way through with lovely Laura's encouragement (I'm on the podcast; no app here for us colonials across the pond). I confess that contrary to her advice, I did a brief 30' sprint to cross the road, although in reality, this was just a short upgrade in pace from snail to shuffle and back again.

I generally take three rest days between runs, what with life getting in the way and all. That has worked well for my aching body, but with my eye on the graduation podium (and accompanying badge, cakes, fizzy beverages, and commemorative tee shirt), my goal this week is to start shortening that down to two rest day intervals. Happy running, friends!

MissKitty24 profile image

Sounds like you've got a good plan in place!

in reply to ccarter100

Good luck, look forward to seeing you climb those podium stairs soon! 🏃‍♀️💨

Hey everyone! It's really hot in the UK at the moment and I'm starting Week 7 tomorrow, in the morning for a change. No running buddy, as she can only do evenings - and this week has diary clashes anyway. So far, I've been OK running 3 x a week - the last runs on Saturday during the Park run which normally starts at 9am, so I think mornings will be fine. Have a good week!

Hello everyone, I am officially off the IC , although on my rest days I’m still doing some strengthening exercises from my sports physio. I Had a wedding weekend in London so I didn’t run for 4 days but I was out this morning and ran 4.5k along the Parkrun route. I’ll try somewhere different on Wednesday or Thursday and then do Parkrun on Saturday. I’m hoping to run it all if I can, but it won’t be in 30 minutes.

Hi there. Im a lurker. I’m all set to do w3r2 today. Thought it was really hard to run for a whole 3 minutes but will persevere. So impressed with everyones efforts. Loving this chat. Everyone is so encouraging and enthusiastic. I’ve managed to lose a stone since starting doing a low carb high fat diet. So easy, never hungry. Hope you all have a great day today

Attempted my first run in the woods today but before I got to the start I went a.. over t.. It was my first fall and I felt very silly as lots of people around and one gentleman came over to check if I was ok. I got up very quickly and dusted myself down and headed for the protection of the woods. Fortunately I was mostly unscathed and completed my run (albeit not my best!) It was not until I got back in the car that I felt a bit sore and suspect their will be bruises. Hey ho it could have been a millions times worse! Onwards and upwards 🏃‍♀️

Hi all, I graduated over a week ago and have gone on 3 post graduation runs, aiming for a 5k distance, to see if I can get faster.

Currently going steadily, not as fast as my ParkRun, but my local circuit involves more gradient, as well as being solo...

I am still finding that getting out and running is a great way of dealing with the stress. I may not solve anything, but the feeling at the end is worth the effort.

Happy running everyone.

i am always late to the party, as its now Wed and I have only just joined. Did r2 of wk7 this morning, yay! So chuffed with myself. Am away at the weekend and near a Park Run so plan to join that too. It will be my first ever.

I hope everyone is managing to do their runs in this heat, I am grateful to be able to go out early before it gets hot.

Good luck tomorrow! Remember you have 6 runs after that before graduation so take it really easy 😁👍

Hi Ju-Ju, I’ve been lurking here for a couple of weeks. At the moment I’m keen to keep running 3 x per week covering (2 @ 5k - the third a longer one at the weekend). I’d like to improve my 5k time (currently about 32 minutes) before moving on to 10k programme. Thought I might add in a run#4 of 2.5km trying that 30-20-10 routine. Can I just check, is there an app you use or do you just count in your head? Would appreciate any advice/ suggestions- sorry if I’ve babbled on a bit! X

Anyone have a recommended app for like seeing the distance you've travelled? I keep my phone in my bum bag when I run atm as don't have an armband thing, would nice to be able to look at the end how far i've travelled :)

Ang62 profile image
Ang62Graduate in reply to KMFMF

I use Strava on my phone. It uses GPS to plot how far you have run. Just press record and start before you set of and then just remember to stop and save your run at the end. 😊
