When the going gets tough - W7R3

The tough want to crawl under a duvet and watch love island (and I hate Love Island!)

What can I say about tonight’s run. I was tired before I even got home. I was tired in the train, I was tired when I was getting ready..... I was almost convincing myself that I wasn’t going to make it.... I’d made sure I was hydrated and had a healthy lunch and plenty of fruit for energy this evening. But following my own advice (in a previous post) I got all my gear on having waited for it cool slightly to 8.40pm.... I still didn’t want to go, but I thought I’d give it a go, if nothing else “it’s still a run”

Lead legs were in full swing tonight, and my left knee took great delight in reminding me what happened last time I got injured, but I think I managed to keep “an ok” pace the whole run - if anything I think I was slightly faster toward the end.

I didn’t hit a zone tonight but there was definitely a pattern that I didn’t have to struggle with - but I fought for every step.... I’ve heard some refer to the toxic 10, where it takes you 10 minutes to find your rhythm and then be able to enjoy the run..... tonight was a toxic 25.

I did it - yes, and I feel glad that I know I ground it out, but I really hated it at the same time... the same way a tennager hates tidying their room but are doing it anyway cos you’re nagging them!

In to my 2 days off now before W8R1 on Friday..... not sure I’m looking forward to that...

I’m a run behind you but it was equally a struggle today! We did it though!

I know I’m not alone and there are so many factors at play.... but damn! Lol.

Well done you too 👍👍👍👏🏃‍♂️

Well done you!! You got out and did the damned thing anyway. A lesser man would have sought refuge in "That Programme Proudly Sponsored by Superdrug".

But you lycra-ed up and did your thing.

That's mental toughness.

And from this point on, if you've got that nailed, you've nailed the programme. It's a head game now, not a leg game.

And you're beating the damned thing :-)

Well done for going out anyway. Am sure you'll feel better on the next one after 2 days rest 🙂

Here's hoping! :D

Well done. Sometimes you just have to grind them out. That shows mental strength - you will definitely reach the podium.

I hope the next run is more enjoyable - I’ve not had two really hard runs in a row.

Thanks Jay 👍

Running is perverse. One run can feel totally horrible, and the next you are flying! I experience this fairly regularly...so no longer worry about the sh*te runs. Do not worry about pace, slow down when you need to. And well done on getting it done. You got grit. 😁👍👏

Thanks Sadie - I know it's now mind over matter (or body!) hopefully next run will be good. I'm thinking of changing route as well, so I don't have any of the usual markers..... 👍

A fresh route is a great idea!

Hi LL! I’m so sorry this reply is so late! I hope the almost a whole days rest has done you good and helped you see the positives. Even though you had to grind it out you still did it and your pace is good too! I expect you were missing your wee whipper snapper jumping around your heels!

I’m supremely impressed you remembered and took your own advice re putting the kit on. It seems to have worked!

Well done and good luck with week 8. 😃
