What running stuff have you bought so far?

I didn’t think running would turn out to be one of those sports (like golf) where you're always tempted to buy the latest gizmo to improve your performance or to make things more enjoyable. But it is! So far (and I'm only on week 4) I have bought:

- running socks x 5 pairs

- bluetooth headphones

- strap thing so I can wear my phone on my arm.

Tempted by those running watches but MUST RESIST!

What have you bought so far?

Am only on W1R3 (R3 is tomorrow). You have just named everything on my shopping list. Apart from the watch, which I bought a few months ago to keep track of my swimming snd steps. At least now I can use its running feature to 👍

Next thing for me will be a proper pair of quality running shoes/trainers, as I’m just wearing my old cheap ones at the moment.

Well done on getting to week 4 👍

Haha, yeah I'm using an old pair of trainers, and should probably look at some better ones. A watch is far more appealing though 😂

I bought a WeLoop Hey 3s off of Amazon. Not the most expensive, but it does all that I want for now. Might upgrade as a treat for myself when I complete the end of week 9 👍

Dammit. That looks so cool 😬

If you just want something cheap that tracks a few things take a look at the Fitbit flex 2, you can get them for around £40 now (Amazon, Argos)

Tracks your steps and will track your run activity, but it won’t tell you anything like pace or distance. Just time really. BUT you can download the strava app which will tell you your pace and distance and time anyways.

Plenty of options that’ll ‘make do’ (or do you forever if you’re happy with that!) whilst you debate about whether this is something you’re going to be doing a lot of and need the watch for. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh dear.

I started at the end of March because I got fed up of waiting for winter to end.

Before that I bought a £15 pair of Decathlon-specials running shoes along with a cheap pair of shorts (turned out way too small) and a cheap running shirt. Oh and a 500ml running bottle and rubber hand strap (which is too big and unnecessary for this programme, but I needed a comfort blanket).

When I was about to actually start my step-son (a graduate of this programme) introduced me to the problems of intimate chaffing and suggested I get some Lycra undershorts.

When I made it through the first few weeks and over time I ordered some bigger shorts; a long sleeved, warm running top; a long sleeved vented running top; another pair of undershorts; some long running pants; some supportive socks. Most is TCA brand from Amazon - very well made and good value imo.

Having graduated I’ve just bought myself some expensive new running shoes and a McLaren F1 2018 team shirt (it resembles a football shirt and is breathable) as a joint grad/early birthday present. Oh, and an 0 shaped 250ml water bottle.

I already had an Apple Watch (the original one that has no GPS of its own). Needless to say I’ve been looking at the newer ones. And the Garmins...

Wow!! 😂

I’m going to look up TCA in Amazon when I get home from work. I bought very cheap shirts from Sports Direct. They do the job by covering the wobbly bits, but tend to be a bit warm after a while in the gym 😅😅

They do some seriously good stuff in quite technical fabrics (hark at me...) for much less than the brand names.

New running shoes! What a difference that made! Also have the garmin forerunner watch which is cool and a stretchy band that goes around the waist and iPhone sits in. I like the Bluetooth headphone idea!

Have to admit I had a Fitbit watch before starting C25K, but I’ve had pacemakers providing all my pulserate since my 20s. Using the Fitbit to see what my heart rate is doing is pretty important to me, as it doesn’t always do what I want with exercise. I’m not so bothered about GPS, though. (Still trying to get to grips with apps to do that part on my phone.)

I suspect my running kit will keep growing over time too, as I’m already an outdoor gear addict! (It’s been a surprise to me to realise how much lightweight kit I already owned that was in fact designed to be running kit...)

I’ve also already succumbed to the blue tooth headphones. A few weeks of having cables trailing from my earphones to my phone in an arm strap were enough for me! 😂😊❤️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Hahahaaa I’m a sucker for ‘stuff’. After completing W1R1 in tatty, very old trainers, cotton Capri trousers and a cotton t-shirt . I had to go and get some proper running tights and running tops, 2 sports bras, good old M&S, and most importantly a pair of running shoes fit for purpose. I’ve already got a Fitbit but I hate running whilst holding things in my hand ie my phone. I tried an arm band for my phone, didn’t like it. Ended up with a running belt. Great for me, I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t bounce around too. Love the little key pockets you get in some of the running tights, very handy. I’m about to do W5R3 on Wednesday and I’m absolutely loving it 😁😁

My Bluetooth headphones just wouldn't connect, or they did then stopped. Given up on them 🙃

Two pairs of running shoes (bought on offer online - the first pair were all wrong and will now be demoted to walking/casual shoes - luckily they are plain black :P ), a cheap zippy belt for keys and phone, Skecher/Reebok trainer-liners that don't give me blisters x 10, two pairs capri pants from M&S. Oh and a Moov fitness tracker that is now kaput. Do not recommend. Planning to upgrade to a smaller phone and use Strava instead.

I think the most important purchase was running shoes following a gait analysis. But I have also got new capris, tops, bras and the pink smartphone arm band. Do running socks make a difference? I haven’t moved onto tech yet but have just downloaded Strava after everyone on the forum talking about it.

I only bought socks because of blisters. They're cute, though :)

I really like the running socks, very comfortable; they're probably my best buy yet. Here's the ladies' version of the ones I bought.

The thing that we all realise is that the true route to advanced sporting prowess is measured solely by the quantity of new kit we buy. That doesn't necessarily mean "use". Sometimes just having it is its own reward. We might want that pack of 12 strap things for our sunglasses one day.

And we have the Autumn to look forward to. That apparently means "layers" and more technical clothing. Then winter will mean gloves and things to put on our trainers to stop us falling over. Then the new trainer lines will be out. And there'll be a new version of iOS so we'll have to upgrade everything.

This is like being in heaven. With a shopping trolley. I'm nearing the stage where every single room in the house bears witness to this evangelical fervour.

Lol, all these posts have made me giggle.....what are we like 😀 I have also bought a few items since starting

3x vests

1x Lycra Capri trousers

1x long sleeve outer top

1x running trainers (me too, the most expensive shoes I have ever bought)

1x hand held water bottle (not used).....having read all these, I feel there are few other items I require, being especially drawn to the Bluetooth ear thingys.......I am justifying all my spends on the fact that I have cancelled my gym registration ( not been going) and that running is free....so all good.

Enjoy 😀😀
