New trainers bought after gait analysis and trying loads of trainers and running in each pair. It is really worth getting this done. Went out and done my run no pain in foot or lateral leg. Only problem still getting pins and needles and numbness, still lacing too tight. Going to change route next week as I'm marking the distance I got to that gate crossed cattle grid etc. I really don't know if I am running too fast i don't know how to measure. Help will be very much appreciated as I am a bit daunted by next week.

Good news about the trainers and the gait test.

Well done on reaching the cattle grid in your run.

Regarding how fast you should be running. I think that sooner or later we just know our own pace. When I first started running I used to think that I had to run - like a racehorse! The phrase 'going for a jog' had completely passed me by! I couldn't work it out why it was not working for me. I joined a running group, then It dawned on me that I was out for a jog and that I did not look like a racehorse at all.

Having said that, 1 girl that joined the running group same time as the rest of us really did run like a horse absolutely no problem and the pacers that were there had to try to keep up with her. She just flew.

I think that if you are asking because you are struggling, can't breathe, feel nauseous etc then you are running too fast. Try to keep a steady pace, one that you can keep up for the entire run.

Good luck with your running!

If you are struggling for breath, or feeling stressed in your runs, then you are moving too fast...Have you checked this post out?

Read the bit about pace... :) Slow enough to hold a conversation...:)

You will as the runs move on begin to find your happy pace... a sustainable pace where, eventually you feel like you could run on and on :)

Glad the shoes are working for you too... loosen the laces, check out your socks too.

Thank you old floss, maybe old sage for your wisdom. It's a real battle to slow down but you are right I am probably unable to have a conversation and I am a woman whom likes natter. Will loosen laces a bit and check socks as its only on warm down that my foot goes all odd. It's one that I ripped ligaments years ago

Nothing beats a lovely comfy new pair of shoes. Apart from cake.

Oldfloss is always spot on with advice, so remember that "conversational pace". I run alone (for reasons that many on here will find obvious) so my yardstick (when I'm being sensible) is that if I'm really aware of my breathing then I'm going too fast. Running slowly is quite hard to do so it's takes conscious effort.

Embrace your Inner Snail. It's really not possible to go too slowly. That's true all the way through the programme.
