A tad afraid

Mrscindyb profile image

It’s my Wk5r3 in the morning. Never run before so very very scared. I did manage the two 8 minute runs but this is big jump. Hope I get some sleep tonight lol. Reading previous posts I know I have to have faith. Wish me good luck and same back to everyone wherever they are on their journey. If I complete this run will treat myself to some proper running shoes. 🏃🏼‍♀️👟

This honestly isn’t a run to fear. The people who designed the programme have got you ready for it.

Go deliberately very slow. If you get halfway and feel great, speed it up a little.

You can and will do it. Good luck!

Mrscindyb in reply to Jay66UK

Thanks. I can’t go much slower lol but I’m moving, feeling better and sleeping so much better. Feel so happy to be getting fitter, so snails pace good for me.

Nice!

Hi Mrscindyb , yes, previous posts are right, or at least they were for me. Don't worry, you've trained for this. Don't think of it as 8 minutes to 20 minutes, you were active I think for 21 minutes in the last session (albeit 5 walking) so it's not that different. Honestly, you'll be fine as long as you pace yourself, don't get giddy and set off like an express train!! My theory is take the first minute to find your comfortable pace, and then slow it down a couple of notches just to make sure you can complete it. If you feel you have it in you, by all means speed up for the last couple of minutes or something.

What I DO know is that the battle is 95% mental for this run, so mind over matter!! Just know that us motley lot are cheering you on, running right beside you, virtually of course.

Take care, and can't wait to see your run report on here!

Neil

You will do it... anticipation not apprehension...:)

It really is, just another run and one you are ready for.

You will be absolutely fine just take it slow. You can always go faster at the end. It helped me to break it into 5 min chunks. Once you are half way you know you can do it. Good luck...enjoy it!

Thanks everyone, taking everything on board, taking all your good wishes with me and now feel ready to take it in my stride. So much support you are all so kind Run Cindy Run x

The first 10 minutes are the hardest as your body adjusts to the run... You will find that after 10 minutes you will settle into a nice comfortable rhythm. Do the whole run slowly, it's about stamina not speed. And when you finish it and go and treat yourself to some nice new running shoes post a pic so we can all drool over them! Good luck - you are more ready for this than you realise x

I’m exactly on the same boat, big step running for 20 minutes non stop after having done 8 at a time before. I'm also a bit scared of W5R3, but with all the nice comments and moral support above I feel a bit better. Tomorrow will be a big day Cindy 👍🏼 We can do it! (I hope)

Likewise, +1 for W5R3 in the morning :-).

Was a bit apprehensive about it before reading the posts above as it wasn’t so many weeks ago I was struggling with the 2 mins. The advice and encouragement is spot on.

You guys are awesome.

Eguzkilore, Mrscindyb, we can do it !!!!

Yeah. Go me. I actually managed it. All be it at snails pace. I didn’t stop right til the end. In fact when prompt came thought I had last minute to go and couldn’t believe She was telling me time to cool down. Ironic a snail was at the end of my warm down lol. 🐌

It is great to hear people’s different stories and all that support, wow! I did WK5R2 yesterday. The first 8 mins was amazing. I was surprised to hear Sarah telling me to slow down. The second 8 mins, well that was a struggle and I was reduced to walking for a few mins in the middle but did finish it running which must be a plus. Kind of looking forward to tomorrow’s run.

Just to let you know your inspiration allowed me to complete my 20 minute run today in the pouring rain, I'd just done the 5 minute warm up when it started but I continued in the pouring rain, that's not me as I hate getting wet, this running is doing funny things to me 🤣

I was scared last week - but also excited to think that I might just manage it based on my progress day on day, week on week. I had found the 8 minute ones OK so figured if it was in the plan and others had done it then surely so should I .... so I set off with curiosity ..... and actually it was OK .... a little bit boring cos I was focused too much on if I could do it, and waiting for the half way check in rather than getting in to my stride as I had started to do in the 8 minute ones. But it was fine, I took it steady, I wasn’t out of breath .... and I DID IT 👏 now in Week 6 the 5 and 10 minute runs have been almost routine and back to thinking about pace/breathing etc. ..... ask me tomorrow when I’ve got to do 25 minutes for Run 3!! But d’ya know what - I am already thinking .... well I’ve done 20 so it’s only another 5 ..... good luck, Cindy, keep going

You must be near finished. I’ve had little set back with chest infection but that podium will be mine in couple weeks or so x

You can do this. I was a bit scared too and went last night and did it. I slowed my pace down a bit so I could get through the 20 mins but it's an amazing feeling when you finish!

Rumour profile image

OK you will have done it by now, but this is what I intended to type before I was called away.

Do you remember your first post about week one? Wondering how you ran for one minute and how you couldn't wait for the walking bit? Well, look what you have achieved up till now. You had trouble running one minute and yet here you are having completed two eight minute runs in one session!

You really can do this, you really can run for 20 minutes. Go slow, save your energy and you WILL surprise yourself. When you have done it, go out and get those running shoes. Get gait analysis from a place like Sweatshop and you will wonder why you haven't done it before. (Actually, I would suggest that week four is the place to go shopping!)

Mrscindyb profile image
Mrscindyb in reply to Rumour

Decathlon do the gait analysis. Would I be better at a specialist running store. Thanks so much. Felt great to actually achieve it

Rumour profile image
RumourGraduate in reply to Mrscindyb

Well, there is a company called Sweatshop who specialise in running. We went to the store in Milton Keynes and had a good experience. Personally, yes I would use a running specific store. No one can be all things to all sports.

Well done Mrscindyb!! I love everyone's posts. They're so motivating. I also completed week 5 run 3 this morning. If you'd have asked me last Sunday if that was possible I'd have laughed but now my mindset is completely different. Slowing down has allowed me to complete the runs so I'm not afraid anymore and I know that I'll pick up speed as I get fitter. Actually looking forward to my Monday run! Well done again!

Im doing Week 5 Run 3 tomorrow too. Bit scared too. But let’s look back at how far we’ve come. I couldn’t run for a minute when I started and now I’ve run for 8 minutes, twice!! So let’s give it everything, take it slow and be positive. Good luck.

Sorry only just seen this. I did it(no flying colours) but no epic fail. Ow onto w8r2 but a chest infection has got in my way. Little tlc and antibiotics should put me right soon.

How are you doing ? 😄

Mrscindyb profile image
Mrscindyb in reply to LauraPlum

I managed this run and felt elated gave me confidence to continue I have been progressing nicely. Did my wk8r1 then got struck down with chest infection. I am still wheezing and not too good. On positive note GP has given me antibiotics and steroids so hopefully they will see me up and running again soon. So frustrating being so close but I have patience as I want to graduate for the first time in my life 😁
