Week 8 Run 2 - Slow and Steady :-)

Decided to slow right down for this one.

Still tired from not sleeping well on Sunday night - massive row with my boyfriend about money. I know you'll all be with me here - spending £250 on a 4k Dashcam for a car that's worth about £50 is an interesting use of limited finances 🤔

Anyway all ok now so set off but started my warm up walk early as I knew I would run too fast if I ran the Parkrun course. Tried out (not particularly successfully!) a technique for regulating my breathing. Inhale for a count of 3 exhale for 2 - Mars from the Planets going round in my head to help me but I'm sure sallenson can think of some much more obscure suitable musical choices!

All in all a good run. I shall tackle run 3 at a similar pace before going like a bat out of hell at Parkrun on Saturday to try and run a sub 30 PB....ssshhhh don't tell Oldfloss 😂😂

Mars! Blimey!! It's in 5/4. I'd fall over!!

Good for you hon!! I've got my W5R2 playlist all set and very definitely a change of mood for me. Details later!! Assuming I make it back!!

Ooooo sounds interesting - look forward to your report.

Good Luck with your run x

Well done! Agree on the budget disagreement! Slow is good - save your energy for the PR. Wow sub 30 - superwoman!!! X

Every pound spent on a car is a pound wasted.... It could be spent on running gear....

or a new metronome - mine hasn't worked properly for about 3 years 😂

Not sure about superwoman! PB at the moment 30:49 with a 5 min walk at the beginning so don't think it's unrealistic to aim sub 30.

One of the things I love about running is you're only competing against yourself - whether your aiming to go sub 20, sub 30, sub 45 or sub 1hr it's a massive achievement to do it :-)

Agree. My aim is 30 mins. Currently at 36!

Don't forget my Parkrun is very flat so that's a factor - I've no doubt you'll get there.

Does your Parkrun do a Pacers Day? On some of the runs here (think it's the 3rd week of the month) there are pacers from 19 mins(!!!) to 39mins. You can run alongside them so you don't have to keep checking your on pace. They don't always manage to have enough people at ours to fill every minute but they do the main ones (like 30) and spread them out from there x

Yes they do. I’ve just signed up for a 10k in Oct!!! 😳💪🏼😬 x

Brilliant well done you!

I want to run further too - can't believe I just said that out loud. I always thought I hated running.

My son said to me the other day "see Mum, maybe if you'd spent less time moaning and more time trying when you were at school you would have been able to do it" 😂

Cheeky git (your son that is!). Needed a goal I figure it’s doable by October!

He is a cheeky bugger but quite a wise one!

Goals are definitely good x

My mum always told me I used more energy getting out of doing sports than I would have used doing it. Hated sports at school.

I remember being told on a freezing cold day after I’d accidentally hit a girls ankles with my hockey stick ( and it really WAS accidentally!) that it happened again I’d be banned from playing hockey and would have to spend all my games lessons sitting in the library doing extra Maths.

I love Maths 😌😉

Result!!!

Snap - love maths too! :-)

Not sure whether it's any better now but the way PE was taught when I was at school was only ok if you were good at it. Too much emphasis on being the fastest, jumping the highest etc rather than self improvement.

I used to constantly pipe up on Sports Day about the unfairness of making me compete in something I was crap at when nobody was made to compete against me in music if they couldn't play!

It's an absolutely bonkers approach in my opinion and while I always had a good sense of humour about my inabilities it did put me off physical activity for about 30 years x

Brilliant!! I was going to ask what was next for you. I've already got my antennae going. I need something structured with a goal at the end or I'll just revert to slobiness....

You can do it!!

I find if I try breathing techniques out I just end up out of breath! I just try to forget about breathing! I sing along to my music. In my head if I'm with my sister! Seems to help!

Reply

Yeah don't think it's helpful at the moment. I'll probably have to address it to go faster but happier just breathing naturally at the mo x

Reply

I rationalise it this way atm : "I know how to breathe or I'd be dead. When I need to learn to breathe differently I'll be able to do it. Not going to stress about until I need to."

Yup, and I was too skinny so when we did forward rolls, on a wooden floor, with no luxuries like gym mats, I ended up with bruises on every vertebrae. Soon puts you off

Very well done.

You are doing great.👍

When you get a chance google Matt Cava on posture and breathing.

He demonstrates his breathing technique very simply on video. In four and out four. That is for longer distances and 2:2 for short quick excretion.

Of course it is the abdominal breathing technique. No drama. That can be bolted on if and when.

It fits perfectly with Laura’s podcasts 1234 pacing when pursuing an improvement in bpm.

Steady, steady don’t get ahead of your body.Your head is so very capable of doing that. Awww Shame body cannot keep up.🤔😂😂🌟👏👏

Thank you - I did do a bit of googling after what you said yesterday but not of that name.

Off to an orchestral practise in a minute but definitely have a look when I get back x

Thank you Tbae just watched the video (it's Matt Cama rather than Cava). Probably still a bit too much for me to think about at the moment but I will bear it in mind for the future x
