W6R2 - Tough -Tougher - Water please

For me it was toughest run of the program so far.

First 10 mins were tough potentially today’s hot weather had some part to play in it. Somehow plodded through it.

3 mins recovery walk was just about enough to recover, potentially designed that way to push us a bit.

Last 10 mins were a bit better initially and then about half way through it became so tough. The only thing that get me through was the thought that I don’t want to do it again, although now I’m thinking that potentially these are the runs that will build the stamina required for longer runs.

I just wanted to have water immediately after finishing the run. Do you carry water with you during the run and sip as and when feeling like hydrating or do you have it at end of the run? Any suggestion regarding drinking water (or not drinking) during longer runs?

Looking forward to the longer runs now! Excited!! Although very tired now 🙂

Everyone else going for W6R2, all the very best, believe in yourself, we all can do it. 👊

Everyone is different and you should try what feels right for you. However, you do need to be hydrated all the time, not just before or during runs. Hydration is important for so many different reasons during runs/generally.

The post below and replies should be helpful.

Well done you 👏🏽for pushing through this run...esp with weather being an extra challenge ☀️

Sounds a tough run....mine W6R2 is Tues am - I always run around 6 so heat won’t be an issue - fingers crossed I can get this in the bag too! Early night for you!!

Thanks BeeCee1

With only the big runs remaining I’m thinking of changing my running from evening to morning but also not wanting to shock my body out of the rhythm it has found. May be I’ll stick to my evening runs.

All the best for Tuesday!

Thank you so much Oldfloss!

I’m officially in your fan club now.

I did that one today. Found it tough going too. I'm doing it all on a treadmill at the gym so always have water with me but then I have to as I have exercise-induced migraine & running outside in any kind of hot weather is a no-no & the merest hint of dehydration will bring one on. Well done for getting through it - I felt the same in the last ten mins - started off feeling - yeah this will be OK then by the end I was thinking - come on Laura - it must be the last 60 seconds by now surely? Kept worrying the app had jammed! We did it though so massive pat on the back for us! Onward & upward toR3! Good luck & keep us posted

Well done getting through this one! Everyone's needs will be different, depending on where you run, what time, heat etc. There are some handy running belts that carry water bottles if you want to have water with you. Agree with comments above, best to start well hydrated fo begin with. Not sure what the consensus is re sports drinks on this forum (i must do a search on that) but I've started drinking them before and after runs lately.

Well done.

The next session is another solid run, so make sure you set your pace.

Personally, I drink a reasonable amount all day, making sure I'm topped up during the hour before the run. I don't drink during the run, but I may need to reconsider if I run further.
