Indoors or outdoors?

Hey everyone 😀

I'm about to start week 5 so the hard stuff is yet to come!

I've always ran outside, mainly because I think I'd be bored on a treadmill or running around a hall

What are peoples reasons for choosing indoor over outdoor and vice versa?

I have noticed that pavements can be an uneven hazard ......almost fell flat on my face on the last run 😲😳

Don't underestimate what you've done, getting started and those 60 second runs are just as hard as the 20 min ones 😂 I run outside because it's there - residential side roads mostly. Having to get to a gym would have meant I never started!

Thanks Nicwit,I'm facing the 20 minute run with a mixture of fear and excitement,Im not a natural runner so the whole 5k is a personal challenge I want to tick off before im 50 in a couple of months😃

Hi Jo-Jo, I started outdoors in Feb but the weather got pretty awful so I changed to the treadmill after my Pilates classes. I found it was easier on my knees and I didn’t have to avoid dog poop and traffic. I also found it easier to control my speed. I headed outdoors again in week 5 and chose somewhere where I didn’t have to cross roads. I am now happy both in and outdoors. I’d say try a mix of the 2 and see how it goes. Tomorrow I run my first Parkrun which will be a different thing altogether. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Hi Jo-Jo. I run at the gym coz I think it is safer for my legs. Drop down curbs for driveways and concrete pavements are very hard on ankles, feet and leg muscles even with good shoes. Also air con in the gym and no need for sun cream. Also my gym has a great view and windows letting in bags of light. I have music I like and obviously my coach’s voice telling me what to do to avoid boredom. I could also watch tv on the treadmill if I chose. Before I settled on my gym I tried a couple of others with no windows and 1 had no air con. It makes a big difference to the experience.

Horses for courses, though and each to their own. I’m sure you’ll do what’s right for you!

Well done on your running! There are a few of us at around the same stage. I’ve got wk4r3 tomorrow.

Good luck with week 5! 😀

I've just put up a post calling for a sub-group of mutually support general good-guy-ness for those of us about to do W5. Simon, you're in already. Jo-Jo, you're in too. We are going to smash this baby!!

Thanks Simon

It looks like you have found your perfect solution,The gym I used to go had mirrors behind the treadmills,I don't need to be reminded of how demented I look while I'm running🤣

I finished wk4 today, Wk 5 starts on sunday!

Good luck with your wk 5 too (especially the with the 20 min run)

The dreadmill is not for me! Outdoors wins ecverytime, whatever the weather, whatever the terrain !🙂🏃🏽‍♀️Beautiful surroundings and I love running on woodland trails, through fields and am not averse to splashing through puddles and squelching through mud. Just my preference.😀

It takes concentration outside... try to find a park maybe?

Many folk don't have a choice...but some prefer it :)

Me? I am an outdoor gal... and love it... all seasons all weathers.. perfect !

I was a fan of outdoors when I was younger, but nowadays it's mostly indoors.

Oh crikey.

You meant running.

Oh. Whoops. Forget I mentioned this...
