W5 R3- i only went and did it!!

WOW that was hard but I was NOT giving up! It didn't help that it was so hot! I'm definitely not made to run in the heat.

The first 5 mins were uncomfortable but doable, the middle 10 were ok, the last 5 were hard, especially the last 2. When Laura's voice popped up to say 2 minutes left I thought there was no way i could possibly keep going but then I gave myself a stern (and very out if breath!!) talking to... how gutted would I be if id run 18 minutes and gave up for the last 2?! So quitting just wasn't an option and I somehow pushed through the last 2 minutes.

Very proud of myself right now. I never would have dreamed I could run for 20 minutes. Even when i left the door for the start of the run, i was having to silence the gremlins telling me that there was no way I could run for that long.

On to week 6 πŸ‘πŸ˜

Well done!

I’m starting W5 tomorrow and can’t imagine myself running for 20 mins by run 3.

Any advice on how to go about it?

I felt the same as you, but was very surprised when it just happened. I got to W5R3 and somehow managed to run for 20 minutes?! Don't overthink it. Just take W5 a run at a time and you'll be fine. I suppose the only advice I can offer is to not go too fast. I'm starting W7 this evening so can remember only too well what a step up 20 minutes feels like, but trust me - you can do it!!

I just did it and must admit I was very apprehensive because it is such a big jump. I made a 30 minute playlist of my very favourite songs and sang along with them in my head, taking my mind off the running. I felt great at the end. You can do it.

Well done! It's a great sense of achievement when you get to the end. :) Having something great to listen to definitely helps. Like MamaHogg I sometimes listen to podcasts while running although the correct music with a good rhythm to run to is excellent too.

I second SaxPlayer. Whenever i thought about it, the general feeling was that there was no way id be able to do it... so i chose bot to think about it and hust do it instead. I really concentrated on my pace and went as slow as i could manage without walking. I also tried a podcast instead of using music and got very engrossed in that which was quite helpful.

Best advice... don't think, just do, as slowly as you can manage xx

Terrific stuff MH, it's great to be on here and watch all of us getting through what feels like a "crunch week" in the programme.

Today's supposed to be the day for my own 20-minute run, but I feel very rough today - man flu not going away, pretty exhausted after three days golf in a row in this heat, and - rather embarrassingly - sunburnt as well! Will see how I feel later on, but will probably wait until tomorrow and have today as an extra rest day - this time without playing golf or doing anything too strenuous :)

I would wait till tomorrow too. Give yourself the best shot. You'll do it! Xx

Terrific!

Congratulations!

You are another example of the mental toughness that is building up during the programme.

It is great to hear these success stories.

BRILLIANT! Well done you!

I did R2 of that week this morning- have to admit I struggled a bit but I kept thinking I had to keep going coz I couldn't tell the forum that I hadn't done it! Hopefully I'll be Ok for R3 on Sunday. It definitely is a mind thing rather than an energy thing though
