I’m in my mid 30’s and have had very little exercise since the age of 17. At 15 and a half stone and 5’9”, and extremely unfit I took a deal at my local gym to join for 3 months. I hated the treadmill, but slowly built my confidence on it and balance over a couple of weeks before starting the couch to 5k program. I have one more run to do on week 3 now and am loving it.
I’ve had to work through a bad knee and shin splint on the other side, but everything is starting to feel better and I’ve lost half a stone whilst building a lot of strength doing weights and core exercises.
For me, I’ve found stretching for 5 minutes, going through my weights routine first, before doing the run has helped with runs a lot. I don’t know why, but going straight into the run is more difficult, as I feel less relaxed and have less energy. Also getting some headphones with some good music has helped with my pace and energy.
Looking forward to completing this program and running my first ever 5k without stopping.
