Week 2 Recap

Run 1

Runs were great, stayed slow n steady, focused on good posture, relaxed shoulders, and breathing. Felt I could have run for longer than the 90 seconds but was also pleased when Laura said to stop. At one point, I shuffled past a group of locals doing their morning tai chi moves, facing the sea. Good feng shui, perhaps? They were moving faster than I was. It was like a slow motion scene from a film with all of us moving at snail's pace lol.

Overall, felt great and the walk/shuffles got rid of a lot of stiffness I was feeling in my thighs and hips.

Run 2

Headache, and all over body aches, but went out anyway. Once again found the runs good, puffed but had plenty of legs left at the end of each. So nice to be greeted by other folk in the park as we pass by - a bit unusual in this city.

It's a 1km walk to the park, including 271 stairs (!!) up and down, which is a great warm up, and then cool down on the way back. Not looking ahead to future runs, just staying in the moment and loving it. I'm at where I'm at.

Run 3

It was a Herculean achievement to get out there this morning. I was prowling the apartment from 2am - 5am in a whole world of pain from frozen shoulder (this happens most nights, but last night was particularly bad). But getting out there and shuffling/walking is the only time I am not in pain at the moment, so that's a major incentive, even if I feel like a tired zombie. The runs were all good and I really enjoyed being out there. Can already feel how much stronger I'm getting, even after two short weeks. I'm chuffed to finish up week 2 and am super eager for Thursday to start week 3.

Hehe 16 degrees is winter-like! I don't know if I'll be able to handle cold weather running. Guess it's just what you get used to. Sub tropical climate here so I'm more used to high temps. The shorts did have to make an appearance though 🤤

Sis in law lives in Sydney, she’s always complaining about the heat, but yesterday morning said it was 10 and she had to put her slippers on, making sure nothing had taken up residence in them as its been so long since she’d worn them. I’m running in a tee shirt still, but that will change soon. 😬

Oh man, those beasties in Oz. They WILL take up residence in clothes, shoes, everywhere. I don't miss it at all. I'm living in Hong Kong and it's just hot for most of the year. Hurray! Will be interested to hear how you get on with NZ winter running!

Its the spiders that get me. Will keep you posted on winter not looking forward to it, but want to keep going now I’ve got this far. Good luck with your next run.

Spiders, flies, insects, creepy crawlies, snakes, sharks... lol. You're so awesome to have completed the course. Amazeballs. I'm happy chugging along but can't imagine running for 30 mins at this stage. Happy to take it run by run. You might need to invest in some good fleece outfits for yet upcoming winter!

You’ll be there soon and you’ll notice you’ll get stronger after each run. I still can’t believe I did it and enjoyed it as well, I’m very slow, but not worried about speed. Just hope the motivation is there when those gale force southerlies hit. Brr, will definitely be thermals and a beanie I think, enjoy your temperatures.

Omg 3 degrees 😲😨 I'd be tucked in bed with frozen muscles. Glad it was a good temp for you though! The heat is great to shuffle about in. Was 28 degrees by the time I got home. Thanks, happy running to you too!

Congratulations Dee.

Well done for finishing it with all those temptations to avoid going out.

Is it Hong Kong where the main issue is humidity?

Turns out shuffling about is my new happy place! :D

Humidity is really high here for most of the year, as are the temperatures, and pollution. And few places to run that aren't hills! Not sure if that answers your question or not, but local conditions certainly make it more challenging, I guess even for experienced runners.
