Never run in my life - other than emergencies!

I’m intrigued. I hate exercise, I’m a busy person but I’ve only ever done exercise around owning and exercising a horse and at school played netball and hockey but those things are in the dim and distant past. Currently I enjoy walking but am too unfit to get up hills easily, my arthritic knees ache and my Achilles’ tendons are tight after any walking. I love yoga as I’m still flexible at 53 but generally feel I can’t fit exercise in. I couldn’t bear the thought of a gym but I’m intrigued about C25K.

Ive never run (knees) but would love to be fit enough to try - am I setting an unrealistic target by giving C25K a go?

Don't be silly... you are perfectly suited to complete this programme:)

Young enough, supple enough and keen enough:)

Check this post out, first..it has a great deal of tried and tested advice

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

The mantra is steady and slow... get out there, and from Run 1,look around, take it gently and enjoy each and every run as you move on. Keep posting for terrific encouragement and advice.... you will find the forum a really useful support.

Points to think about... the right running shoes.. ( there is a section in that link about that) rest days.. which are non negotiable and listening to your body.. ( which may complain a little at first).

I started and Graduated in 2105... at the age of 65...still running three times a week, and just about to start my Half Marathon training plan in about 15 minutes:)

So...nothing to stop you.... and we will be watching for your first post.

Welcome:)

I think a lot of us here are/were not as fit as we would like to be or have medical conditions, perhaps not as young have loads of time pressures but we all have one thing in common we wanted to give c25k a go. You will get loads of support and advice right here. Read the guidance as oldfloss suggests and keep letting us know how you get on. You never know you may get hooked as I have. I love it 😊

Hi there. I was much like you but almost 65 when I started in January. One knee a bit dodgy on hills. I managed C25k fine by following the advice to the letter (go slowly, do the warm up and cool down walks, do the post run stretches etc) and graduated in March. Now run 30 mins 3 times a week and working towards 5k. I wear a knee strap which makes a huge difference. Give it a go, you’ll probably end up as amazed as I was!! All the best.
