Did the wrong run. Fill in the gaps?

I've just got back from what I thought was W3R3 however due to a technical problem (which is that I'm an idiot) I somehow managed to push the button for W4R2. I didn't realise until the outro clip at the end when I'd already completed it.

I managed to do all the runs, although I thought at the time that they were quite a steep step up from W3R2?! Now I know why.

Feeling like I've "broken the spell" of the carefully arranged programme and even though I managed to do all the runs, I'm actually taking it as a knock and feeling quite negative rather than positive. I'm most worried about what effect it'll have on me and whether I'll be suffering the consequences tomorrow!

My gut feeling is that I should continue with W3R3 on my next run (which I'm planning to do this Thursday evening), follow with W4R1 after that, then skip W4R2 and go on to W4R3. Or would it better to repeat W4R2 (I don't really want to do that, to be honest)?

Any advice and general "you're not such an idiot after all, really" type comments would be gratefully received.

I feel such a numpty. :-(

I would do wk4 r1, then the rest of the programme.

Don’t see it as a negative, you did great. Keep going Runner 🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻👍🏼

Thanks Millsie-J. I really appreciate your reply. I expect tomorrow I'll realise that I did well to do 5 minute runs when a couple of weeks ago I would've struggled with 30 seconds!

It happens to the best of us..you are most definitely NOT a numpty... Folk who deliberately miss out runs and weeks are the numpties:) ( Yes, there are folk who do that :)

So, do your Week 3, run 3 and move on...My feeling would be do the Week 4 runs , all of them.. great practice and the more practice the running legs get the better... :) You felt it was a 'steep step up' so this way you will be really confident moving on to Week 5 :)

Thanks Oldfloss. I'll take your advice. The more practice, the better - that makes sense. I'll do W3R3 on Thursday evening and then continue with the programme, this time in the correct order!

I'll make sure I press the correct button in the app in future.

Thanks for your help.

Go you... :)

Oh bless u! Of course you're not a numpty! As the others say everyone makes mistakes. Give yourself a pat on the back for getting through it. Remember- the only way you fail is by never trying in the first place. You will feel better tomorrow I'm sure.

Thanks Welshwitch. I needed that encouragement. :-) It's a strange response to feel negative when I managed to get through the run successfully. I suppose having put my trust 100% in the programme I don't want to divert from it even by a bit.

I'm sure you're right; provided I don't feel any adverse reaction tomorrow, I'm sure I'll feel more positive about it then. :-)

No - I totally get that - I would feel the same but I'm sure it won't make any difference in the long run (pardon the pun) I still think you did brilliantly- I've only just done W2r2 today. Good luck & keep going - u got this.

You made me giggle there! Feel positive, that is great. It's not going to be a problem. Just fill in the blanks......and maybe skip the run you have already done.....you have already done it after all. See how you feel when you get there 😁😁

Thanks cheryl_stevens. That's good advice. Take each run as it comes and see how I'm feeling.

I'll do W3R3 and then W4R1 and take a view on it then. Oldfloss suggested re-doing W4R2. I'll take a view on that just before I'm due to go out and see where my head is at that point!

I'm so enjoying this running lark, I don't want to do anything to put myself off!

Don't be put off, you are doing fab! I am on W4R2 so we are not far apart. I am enjoying the sense of achievement but it is a struggle. I am hoping it will get easier but I am determined to stick with it. Good luck to you x

I agree with you. A struggle, but a real sense of achievement when you hit one of the goals whether that be 60 seconds in week 1 or several minutes now as the weeks go on. Good luck with the rest of week 4. :-)

This is a technical problem I frequently suffer from myself... :P The three runs in Week 3 are identical, as are the 3 runs in Week 4 (I have no idea if the script is different for each in the app, I ran to the podcast), so W4R2 is just you doing W4R1 a run early. I would do W3R3 next time out and then carry on with Week 4 as you would have done otherwise. Won't hurt if that ends up making 4 times you've done the Week 4 run, but probably fine dropping one of them. Definitely do W3R3 though. :)

That's a good point, so I've only really done the run one run early. That's a good way of thinking about it! I will definitely do W3R3 and then pick up W4R1 after that. Not sure about W4R2, will have to see how I feel about it when I get there. Thanks for your reply. :-)

🙂 Don’t stress, if I were you I’d just pretend it didn’t happen.... I shall wait and see whether you include this in the blog!

Please don’t feel negative about it, I love your positivity!

Thank you! It's the morning after now and I'm over my slight wobble. I will include it in the blog, if only to warn other people not to be an idiot like me and make sure that they push the correct button?! ;-)

Feeling happier about my mistake today! Got to take the positives 😀 I’ll be filling in the gaps, though. Good luck with your running and thanks for the encouragement 😊👍🏻
