Hello all - My name is Thom M and I live in Dallas, TX. I’m 58. I have never been an athlete - ever!!! I started running when I was 51 and kept it up for about 4 years. Unfortunately, I fell off the wagon about 2 years ago and I have not been able to get back off the couch. Landed on the C25K web site a few weeks ago and want to relaunch but I JUST CAN NOT GET MOTIVATED. Not sure what I need but I half hearted want to get back out and run. Need motivational help. Any advice is welcome!!!

Great start joining this forum you only need to read the successes and struggles on here to get those trainers on. I started walking everyday first until I got the courage to have a go. Have you downloaded the app onto your phone or mp3 device? I bet when you press play and run that first minute ..all those reasons why you enjoyed it in the first place will come flooding back. I’m only just about to start week 3 and when I go out I’m a bit nervous but surprised that I did it. I also signed up to a 5K run for charity in July to keep me to account... just do it and I look forward to hearing about your progress good luck

Thanks for your encouragement. I need to change my user name to oldmanruns. I’m heading out today !!!

The motivation comes as you start the programme and you rediscover the joys of running. So no more debating with yourself. Put your gear on and head out the door. Follow the instructions on the app and in about 9 weeks you will be running for 30 minutes 3 times a week.

GO 🏃‍♂️

Fantastic! I’m pleased that you’ve got off that couch and done your body and mind a great favour. Keep checking in and posting with us as we like to know how you get on. 👏🏻

Did you manage to go out for your first run?

If no, just change clothes for running, put on those comfy running shoes, and then (and only then) see what happens.

Usually this part is the most difficult. Not making time for it, not motivating yourself, just putting the clothes on. Something that we do every single day. But it's true. Once you're already dressed up for running, it's easy just to head out of the door and see what'll happen or jump on the treadmill.

So just put on your clothes and shoes. For a first run, you don't even have to start with C25K. Just go for a 30 min walk with few jogs here and there. Although if you have W1R1 (week 1 run 1) on your phone already, just press start and enjoy ;)

Happy running!
