Week One Done - question about rest days.

Did my third run of Week One this morning.

Because of my work shifts I want to do the same the days each week.

Are there any cons in having a two day gap even though it's suggested one day on, one day off?

I want to do Sunday, Wednesday & Friday each week.

Do what's best for you 👍🏻

There are no rules to which days only you have One day off to repair

(Something I learned other day 😊)

9wk programme taken me 12 weeks upto now I think

I quite often end up with a 4 day gap, and rarely get 3 runs in a week but have got to Week 8 and have managed to do every run (albeit at a very slow pace!) I would say it doesn’t matter if you have more than a day’s rest. 👍

That sounds fine.

If you read the guide to the plan healthunlocked.com/couchto5... it answers this and many other questions.

Keep us posted on your progress.

If you do 3 runs a week, you have to have a 2 day gap in there somewhere. Good luck with week 2.

That’s ok...you do it however it works for you...just as long as you keep going 😉

Running three times a week will inevitably give you two single rest days and a two day gap. This is when your muscles repair and get stronger so a really important part of the programme, although you can do non impact exercise on rest days if you want : e.g. swimming, walking, cycling, gym, squats and lunges, or even use the strength and flex podcasts if you get tempted.

And well done for completing week 1.

That's the pattern I've run from the beginning, so I can 100% say it's fine and works! :) Luckily I'm not restricted by shifts, I just found those days of the week work well for me. If you're on one of the weeks where it's the same run 3 times, it's quite nice having that 2 day break right after your first go at it because you're covered if you overdid it! ;)

Took me a while to realise I was odd around here because my 2 day break was not at the end of each cycle of 3 :D Works great that way though for when life (well weather) gets in the way, because I can bring a run a day forward easily and still have the minimum 1 rest day. Or if I'm not feeling virtuous on a Sunday, bump it to a Monday, and I've still completed a cycle by Friday.

The only rule you need to worry about, is have a minimum of one rest day inbetween. That's it! You can have more rest days ( Lillybeth30mins was doing 2 runs a week rather than 3) and it doesn't have to take 9 weeks.

Good luck! :)

I always have a two day gap at least once a week, sometimes have had a 3 day rest, don't worry about things like that, just make sure it fits in with your life, you are supposed to enjoy it.👍😀
