Dry mouth when running!

Does anyone know why I get such a dry mouth when running? Itโ€™s soooo irritating. Iโ€™m wondering wether to suck on a boiled sweet but Iโ€™m scared of choking. ๐Ÿ™„. Iโ€™m a treadmill runner who has water before and during running. Iโ€™m also on meds for diabetes and wonder if, because Iโ€™m losing weight I may be experiencing a side effect.?

I think It's probably because you are breathing through your mouth. I chew gum on my longer runs which helps (I also need lip salve for dry lips but often forget it). I don't know about any side effects of your medication, perhaps someone may have an insight they can give you.

Also don't forget hydration should be ongoing and permanent (medication permitting) not just pre, post and during running.

I drink throughout each day Annie but I think Iโ€™ll do the gum thing. Thanks๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

It can be related to your medical condition, diabetes.๐Ÿค”

But breathing through your mouth unfortunately gives you this dry mouth condition and I think even worse on longer runs plays tricks with your mind, making you think you are dehydrated when you are not.๐Ÿค”

If you breathe through your mouth do it. ๐Ÿ‘ Slowly practise nose breathing and introduce to your runs gradually.Your fall back sutuation is what you do at present.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Google Matt Cama just to have a peep. Eg. If you wish.

I was looking at the respiratory system and we have a much bigger volume receiver behind our nostrils to receive the inhaling of oxygen.๐Ÿค”

No question keep it simple, do not think about it, but if you are a natural mouth breather๐Ÿ‘, at least there is an excellent alternative for you, that you can slowly adopt.๐Ÿค”๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Sugar free polo tucked into your cheek :) it works:)

Check with your Diabetic nurse to make sure all is well with you and your meds etc :)

Run with the tip of your tongue touching the roof of your mouth. I run with my mouth open and this helps. I also run with a water bottle and just swish a half-mouthful of water around and spit it out w/o swallowing
