W7r3 - ouch, but not a running injury!

All day today my shoulders and neck have been full of tension and getting increasingly sore, so I really didn’t know whether going for a run was more likely to help or hurt more. On the basis that if hurt too much I could call it quits and come home, I decided to try running... So off I went.

Tonight I didn’t want to do the same route I did two days ago, so thought I’d go back past my office, and although the park there would be locked there are useful loopy streets which I could run around - and hopefully a good run there tonight would stop me developing a mental block about running there since it’s where things didn’t go to plan on Saturday.

Well, it was interesting crossing the roads while not being able to turn my head properly to the right- fortunately there wasn’t much traffic tonight! And it was tough - I kept reminding myself to slow, keep it steady, just keep going - but I managed the whole 25 minutes. Yay me!

My neck is still stiff and achy, so I’m about to find out my wheat bag for that - but I’m very glad I went out and gave it a try :)

Well done you. Sorry to hear that about your neck and shoulders.

So important that your shoulders and neck are tension free. shoulders down , head up , chest open.

How do you think that’s happened.🤔

Sleeping position, draft, do you keep your head up and still when running, is heat the answer🤔, sorry not a medic, just concerned and what has caused it.

Hope you can identify something you have done

I have 8 basic warm up exercises that are not negotiable, always do before I do anything else, they are from the biggest loser programme. Starting from head to feet. The first three are neck and head movements, then shoulder rolls both directions, arm crawl front and back, then waist circular movements , squats and full body and out stretch arms from above your head to your feet to get your heart pumping.

The head, neck and shoulder would help you free this off gently. If you know them and it is not through some existing medical condition🤔

I have pusedo gout in C1&C2, so these exercises work for me.Stops me having to medicate.👍

Thanks for the suggestions - I’ll give them a try tomorrow. I think it’s a combination of work stress, tiredness, and sleeping on it funny the last night or two. Hopefully a good night’s sleep tonight will make a big difference...

All three wheat bags seem to have disappeared - but I’ve been on ibuprofen today and that’s helped a lot! Will continue it tomorrow...
