Mountain goat syndrome, body listening

No, before you get excited I’m not running up mountains!

Whilst away on holiday I’ve been super pleased with myself for running every other day. However a couple of days ago I thought I was about to suffer 1st running injury - 😲 . My hip and leg began to hurt a tadge more than just gremlins. So i did what you good folk on here say and listened to my body.

Hurrah problem investigated and reasons found

1 I have one leg slightly longer than the other which tend to cause imbalance in pelvic swing (according to physio and gait analysis confirmed this

2 my regular route has been along the beach which shelves guide a lot at the waters edge

3 ergo on my return journey the longer leg is uphill, causing even more tilt

4 solution move up the beach to more level ground - hoorah no pain and even a 2 second faster pace today

I’m no mountain goat, so the level for me from now on ,

Moral of my story is listen to my body as well as my music whilst running.

Anyone else have a simlar story to tell?

Interesting post... and you have found a lot of things out !! Well done you.

Remember also, that beach running.. even on dry sand puts a real strain on our legs, ( think suction ). It was the one thing i was forbidden to do after my calf injury...:)

Enjoy your holiday :)

Thanks for that info. I do keep to the wet compacted sand as I soon found the drier stuff was giving me problems . I also do more hard surface running than I did in the first few days. Cooo I’m certainly learning a lot .....

I meant that kind of sand really... it is the compacted bit, that can cause the issue. IannodaTruffe explained it in a reply.. I think to do with muscle overload.

It is all about awareness really and not aggravating any injury...or discomfort. I run on the beach now, ( when I am at my holiday home), that I am recovered from my calf tear... and love it:)

We do learn so much don't we... I know I am still tucking great advice away from folks on the forum:)

More and more I am focusing on what my body is actually doing when I run. It's rather disturbing sometimes how it will behave in a way that is not conducive to good form. Being too tense is an ongoing problem.

Yes I tried a podcast out the other day, by the time I tried to do everything I was told regarding posture, pace, foot and leg movement I felt as if I was taking part in other ministry of silly walks/runs) 🤪
