Hi i downloaded the app last night and am going to do my first 'run' today. I'm a 52 years old, female, a bit overweight and slightly worried about not even being able to do first 'run' !!! Any advice greatly received :)

Hi. I am 52 and trying to get fit and loose weight. I started at Christmas and now on week 6. You can do it!

I am amazed that I have got this far. Just follow the plan and it works so well.

You will be fine and it's so worth it.

Good luck

Thank you for that encouragement - i'll let you know how i get on.

Have you ever run before? I havnt not since school! X

Same, though didn't run much at school either😆.

It is a bit hard but so gradual in progression that it is achievable.

You will begin to feel healthier and just make sure you have rest days as I did ache a fair bit in weeks 1 and 2 .I think my body thought what an earth is going on!!

Good luck

Same here but much less aching, if any after a run since. You'll be fine just take it slowly kmgw.

Im 65 in a few days time and haven’t run for 50 years. On week 6 now and surprised how well I have done. Go as slow as you like, that brilliant advice has worked really well for me up to now. Also have faith in the programme, it’s designed with people like us in mind!

There's only one way to find out. I'm sure you will be fine but it will feel a bit strange when you start because you're not used to moving around that way.

If all you've done recently is run for buses, then don't do that. You have to educate the body that this is not an emergency and it's OK just to trot along at gentle pace.

Which coach are you going to take with you?

Sarah Millican

I had Sarah as my coach! Awww - fond memories. Just listen and follow the programme. All will be well - I, along with thousands of others, am living (sometimes puffing 😏) proof!

Hi there

I am 61 and a bit overweight. Haven't run since I was at school. I'm in Week 4 now, so if I can do it I know you can.

Things I've learnt so far (mainly from the great people on this forum):

1. Don't go off too fast - take it slow and steady, as everyone says.

2. Make sure you do the warm-up walk and also do some stretches after your run - they are really important. See nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/...

3. Always take the rest day (or more than 1 day) between runs. I've been running on Sunday, Tuesday and Friday, but took a week off in Week 3 because I had knee pain.

4. The most difficult bit is stepping outside the first time.

5. Keep coming back to this forum for encouragement, help and tips.

Good luck with Run 1 - let us know how it goes!

Welcome- you have made a great plan to start C25K!

I am completely new to running at the age of 58 having believed that I couldn't run for half a century! - Also a bit overweight, but that's improving. I am absolutely loving it and my only regret is not discovering this sooner.

Go slowly and gently and enjoy your running adventure. Let us know how you get on so we can cheer for you! 😄

I'm going to be doing my very first run in the next day or so ( prob tomorrow) but I'm going to start on treadmill - I need to get fit - I'm 47 in may had hysterectomy in November and need to claim my body back lol X

Good luck on the treadmill - remember not to go too fast. I am also trying to retrieve the body I used to have (or at least a semblance of it)!

52, ex smoker and couldn’t complete W1R1 on the first AND second attempt 🙈. However, did manage it on the third attempt and haven’t looked back since. Not quite there yet but completed Week 6 today - a full 25 minutes of running.

You CAN do it. I found it really useful to schedule in runs so I felt compelled to pull my trainers on and head out of the door.

Good luck 😉

I'm 53 and 3 stone overweight. I did week one and today was able to go 2 minutes without stopping (my little Jack was with me). It felt AMAZING as last week I struggled to do 30 seconds! and i can't wait for my next trot. I dont want to spend another summer under a huge T-shirt, NO, I WANT my jeans loose and I'm NOT giving up.

I'm about 3 stone overweight too :(

Need to keep this going to get a summer bod :)
