After completing wk5 r3 relatively easily (tired but never thought of stopping) today I attempted wk6 r2 and I couldn't even manage 10 minutes running πŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯ I was so out of breath and basically knackered..what am I doing wrong πŸ€”πŸ€”

I think the expert runners will tell you you are going too fast!!

Maybe too fast... if not.. you could be..overtired... coming down with a bug... but more likely the former...

Thanks, I'm going to try the run again tomorrow

Maybe you missed W6R1, which is the longest workout to date.

Thanks, I did miss it but I went running with another club doing efforts, hill running and a general longer run so I thought I'd be fine! So maybe I'll do wk6 r1 tomorrow instead of repeating r2. Thanks

Please don't be put off. Put this down as a practice run and just have another go at it. Were you hydrated - if you're a morning runner make sure you drink plenty of water the night before. If you were out of breath it sounds like you may have been going too fast, perhaps after getting through week 5 your confidence levels had raised and your legs set off too speedily. Try slowing it down a few notches next time. Or perhaps you were too tired.

Also remember a lot of us experience the "toxic ten". So even when I might be running a longer distance the first ten minutes can seem like a real challenge. But after ten minutes, once my body has got used to the fact I'm running and started to use oxygen more sensibly, and tend to settle into my pace and can keep going much longer. I think this is a common feeling.

I hope you have a better run next time. It's worth persevering. :-)

Thanks I've just been reading about the "toxic ten" I'll keep that in mind and I'm definitely going to go slower. I find that I do when I run alone but I think I try to keep up with the group in the group run

I didn't realise that you were running with a group and doing hills and stuff... no wondered you were out of breath. Perhaps doing week 6 run 1 on your own will help you slow it down. Good luck.

I too am struggling with Week 6. I completed R2 this morning and whilst the first 10 mins was OK, the second seemed to last a lifetime and I can’t believe that I did a full 20 mins less than a week ago. Needless to say, I am NOT looking forward to the next run 😩.

If I were you, I’d just repeat the day but go really slowly.

Thanks I will take it slowly and I think I'm going to repeat r1 & 2 of wk6. Good luck with r3 😁

Week 6 was my toughest week, after the exhilarating feeling on W5R3, I couldn’t believe how hard I felt W6. Stick with it as it will actually get a little better and more enjoyable when you start running without intervals. Good luck and don’t give up - persevere - it’s worth it πŸ˜„

Thanks, I'm definitely going to stick with it and I actually think as one of the other replies suggested I might be coming down with some thing or just be really tired because last night after the run and a bath I had no energy at all. I couldn't even be bothered to eat my dinner and walking was an effort!. So full rest today then see πŸ‘€

Too fast I suspect. It happened to me before when I was trying to up my pace too soon. Go slow and get the run in, then work on the speed.
