w1r2 complete but wife a little worried

Our second official c25k run as a couple last night. It went rather well I think; one of my issues - being much faster at the moment than my wife - was sorted out to a great extent by me doing an extra warmup and 60s jog, wife joined after and with the wind taken out of my sails already it was much more comfortable keeping together.

Although probably easier than r1 the pace was a little slower. Wife is concerned that w2 might be just about doable but 3 and 4 look tough! Just think about the next one is my current advice and I am confident we won't have an issue by the time we get there.

Given 3x60 caused a wheezing meltdown a couple of weeks and now 8x60 is almost completely manageable I am (touch wood) confident and looking forward to next week.

We are enjoying it much more than we thought we would!

It is very doable as hundreds/thousands before you have discovered (me included) every run you do strengthens you a little more ready for the next run.

Just remember to take it slow and steady and don't push your wife to go faster and I don't mean you would do this purposely but mentally she will be trying to keep to your pace make sure you slow down to run at her pace and make sure she knows not to run to fast.

The program is NOT about speed/distance it's about running for a set period of time so it's slow, slow, slow, set off at snails pace and then slow down, speed/distance can come later

Thanks! We will try and focus on keeping the speed under control - me particularly. Someone else suggested doing a bit of a separate extra warm up and it really helped. We will keep it slow!

You are doing so well! Just keep it very slow and steady... it is the only way :)

Just relax.... enjoy this journey...and remember... Snail pace...is...the...pace:)

Thank you :) we will be keeping it slow! About to go out in a minute in the cold so we will see how we get on. I expect wife will feel better after today's because she was better after r2 than after r1 :)

Hope so! I am hoping it goes well today so we feel a bit more confident about w2. Soon find out! :)

“Trust in the program” is what I was told and so far:spot on!

But, if the odd run gets repeated, then that’s no problem either.

I love hearing about you two running together and supporting each other. I wish you continued good luck and happy running 🏃‍♀️

Thank you! It's really great having such supportive posts in response - it's a good boost to confidence in the programme even if we have a wobble about particular aspects of it!

Looking too far ahead isn't necessarily the best plan. Week 3 looked insurmountable to me in week 1, but when I got there via week 2 it was actually just the right level that I needed at the time. Now I just look at what the next run is the day before I actually do it and then plan the best route round the park to fit in the run / walk bits!

Thank you! We will try and keep that in mind. It is a little bit difficult not peaking ahead but I guess certainly until r3 we shouldn't be thinking too much about it.

Definitely go one step, one run at a time and don’t trouble week 3 until week 3 troubles you

Thanks, we will try and ignore the thought of it until the end of next week at least!

I just graduated this afternoon and clearly remember feeling the same as your wife when I started week 1. The fitness and confidence builds up as you move from run to run and week to week. It happens almost magically it seems, which is the beauty of this program. Have fun!

Congratulations!!!

Thanks for your views - glad we aren't the only ones - and that it evidently works notwithstanding those slight doubts!

You will do it . I remember looking at the big run of 20 mins and thinking "your having a laugh" where did that one come from. Take your time and go as slow as you need to. Redo a week if you have to but the main thing is just keep going. Im 50 and was 2.5 stone overweight when I started not done exercise in years, I just dig my heels in and said Im doing this and I did and you will too

Thanks for your support! We have made a slow start in order to get to this stage having been worried about the 60s of running, but we have kept going and I am pretty sure with the support of everyone here we will manage it!
