Well done so far! I'm not sure how you're managing 4.5KM in just 20 minutes including the walking in between bits of W2R1.

Well done on your start.
If you are going to persist with running past about W4 then you need running shoes, not leisure trainers. I always recommend going to a specialist running and having a gait analysis to discover how your foot impacts and get the most appropriate running shoes for you.

Most of us have fallen hook line and sinker for running gear, despite lifelong dislike of sports clothing. Wicking shirts are more comfortable than cotton t-shirts and frankly the gear is more convenient.
Run in what you feel comfortable in.
