New Year’s Eve run

Hi folks,

I’m not usually one for new year celebrations, but I can celebrate that 2017 was the year I graduated from C25K, with the support of you lot, and I’m really proud of that.

So today’s run was a new supposedly flatter winter route down a local bridal path which runs along the old track bed of a railway, closed by Beeching of course. I was aiming for 5k in about 35 minutes. I missed and managed 4.2k. This was mainly due to the fact that the Middlewood Way was at least as wet and muddy as the canal towpath, which was a surprise. I didn’t enjoy the puddle jumping much, scared stiff on tweaking something and setting off the bursitis again, but I persevered for just over 32.

Not the best run, but it was one of those where I felt brilliant afterwards.

So - thank you for all of your support this year. Here’s to the next one!!

Well done you, getting out there, enjoying the run. That's all that matters - time, kms, blah, blah....don't matter. This most important thing is how it makes you feel. And if that's brilliant and injury free, then job done! Sounds like you rocked it! :)

Well done for getting there! I think the effort put into running in the mud does matter far more than the 5K ;-) And I wish you a lot more rewarding runs for the New Year!

Well done Neil! There's nothing quite like the feeling that you've battled against the odds to complete a run. 😀

Hello, yes I’m still here! I’m doing ok actually, slightly struggling with my route as it’s a choice between quagmire or hills in the winter. With the early starts for work, I do struggle to fit a run in, but I’m at least managing once or twice a week.

I’m really looking forward to longer days and hopefully warmer dryer weather!!

How do you cope with winter running Jan?

Hi Neil. Two things I don’t work anymore so that helps with timing. And at present am back in London which although is grey skies, is not so horrid for running. But Italy in Winter is harder cold and hilly and rather nasty gusty gales. I generally have a rule on going out. Cold I will go and run, cold and windy yes but I avoid ridges and the treelined roads as we get many tree falls. If it’s cold and really windy, I choose a more downhill route and walk back up the 5km hill with the 250metre climb... it’s tough but I stay warm from having run. I will run in rain, but not if it’s throwing down, nor if it is accompanied by strong winds, as now my runs are 10km plus and being both wet and cold is bad news.

But still you running once or twice a week is good as the weather improves you can pick it up again. Keeping the habit going I found is the most important thing. I am sure only super humans keep exactly the same distance and regularity. Well done on keeping going, you’d been quiet of late and I wondered if you were injured or something.
