Hi guys! I've never really been one for gyms but wanted to get fitter so thought i'd try C25K. I'm on W3R3, and really enjoying myself! I'm starting to get some pain in my knee though, and was wondering if I'm doing something wrong or need to look at my technique. Has anyone else experienced this?

Well done your doing great. I feel the same about gyms too 🙄 so have been running on treadmill at home but am on my last week now and determined to get outside and continue. About the knee check your footwear maybe I would always recommend in investing in good running shoes as they have helped me stay pain free throughout this training x

HI!! thanks for your response, it really helps - I didn't think to invest in new trainers, just dragged my old (but hardly worn!) pair out of the wardrone. I'll have to consider buying a new pair...

I echo what ju ju says and go to a specialist shop that will analyse how you run and make sure you are fitted to suit your needs. Nothing worse than being in pain ... it said you mentally and physically 😞 keep up the good work and as soon as you can sort your shoes 👍🏻X

The body will have lots of niggles if you havent run before. I do suggest having gait analysis for decent shoes and get it checked out if it gets worse/ no improvement. So glad you are enjoying it :)

Hi, thank you for responding - It didn't occur to me to get a gait analysis carried out; that always seemed like something aimed at hard core runners! I think i'll check out what's available to me locally, maybe this will help alleviate some niggles!

Thanks again.

Yes do it. I have a badly damagd knee and femur from a road traffic accident in my youth, and didnt think I would be able to run much.i had my gait analysed and they fitted me for the right shoes. With my knee strapoed up, I havent had as much as a twinge of swelling or knee pain. The right shoes make you feel as if you are floating along and as if there is nothing on your feet. I have to run up and downhill here, which in theory should strain the bad leg, but so far so good.

These exercises may help but do make sure your shoes are suitable?nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/...
