Just done first run of Week Two of Couch to 5kw

Piece of cake. 😊. Perhaps my previous cycling is giving me a head start. Not really starting from the actual couch. Hope it’s not cheating. 😊

Of course it helps. When i was cycling daily, my aerobic fitness was really good. And of course it's not cheating. i'm not far into this program myself (just finished week 2), but I suspect there will be areas the cycling doesn't help with, like upper body fitness.

I think any other exercise will give you a head start. I have played badminton on and off for some time and had already done a couple of light half hour runs with my daughter before getting the app, so decided I probably didn't need to start at week 1. I browsed through the run content and decided to start at week 4. I'm now halfway through week 6 and the approach seems to have worked OK for me.

I think in your case we can say the C stands for Cycleto5K. It makes no odds, different muscles and actions etc... Just well done on getting out there.

It's strange that I can cycle 30 miles without getting puffed out, but 90 seconds running and I'm ready to stop. I'm guessing that it's all about different muscle groups and stuff. Anyway, actually enjoying the runs. I used to say why should I run when I've got a perfectly good bike, but seeing the benefits of doing both now.

Running shoes don't get flat tyres.

Well done on getting started.

Yes, you will find bringing extra fitness helps but the challenges will probably still seem tough at times.

Enjoy your journey.

When I was cycle touring, with loaded front and rear panniers, I was doing yp to 100 miles a day yp and down hill, but I would still have got puffed running. I think the breathing with cycling is more relaxed. Anyway, well done you for getting stuck in. The endorphin rush from running is much more of a high than from cycling (says she who hasnt run for more than 90 seconds at a time for the last 60 years).

Me too! I didn’t have so much of a problem with breathlessness when I started the programme; mine was painfully swollen ankles and feet. So I guess I wasn’t used to impact exercise and my body protested! Am currently on wk7 and thankfully no such probs now.
