Week 9 Run 2: Fun run

No, not the kind when you dress as a squirrel or a medieval knight. I made a decision this morning to take this one very slow and steady, to see if I got my robot legs again - and I did! This time for almost the whole run. My legs felt strong and no heaviness that I used to get. And thus = probably the most pleasurable run I have ever had. It was dark and quiet and so ridiculously mild I had to run in a vest and shorts.

One hairy moment when a fox squared up to me. 😱 I could see him/her on the pavement ahead of me, just staring as I approached. Pretty sure from the look on its face it wasn't seeing a 5ft 5in woman running towards it, rather it was seeing a big juicy chicken. It only scampered off at the last minute as I approached. Essentially it was playing chicken with me!

So, my distance and pace were not impressive, but my bliss levels were. And that's important to me. I shall try a slightly faster pace for my next run. It's fun to play with your runs!

Love,

Sadie x

Very very well done Sadie, you're so nearly there now! So there's no foxing you this morning, eh? :P

You do seem to get a good variety of wildlife on your runs, squirrels, foxes, what's next?!

The best bit is that you really enjoyed it. From my experience, that's the key to motivation and keeping it going. I remember my first week 6 run was like that.

Give yourself a big hug and a large cuppa! I'm *really* looking forward to your graduation post!!

Parakeets. In the summer my local park is FULL of them.

Thanks so much, Neil! Your support has helped me no end, and you never fail to πŸ‘ me along!

You are right: the most important thing to me right now is not speed nor distance, but pleasure. I have a nice steady pace, and good form, but most of all I often sing a bit as I run and I am a joyful creature! Compare that to my heavy legs and grimacing face of weeks 1-3 - what a difference 6 weeks of this wonderful programme makes!

I for one cannot wait for you to run for 30 minutes! Do it nice and slow, okay?!

Oh me too! I seriously think the key to robot legs is good warm up and running slow. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜€

Sounds like a lovely run - well done, almost there! As for the fox, I had one 'trailing' me along a bridleway for a while once and felt distinctly worried for a moment, until looking back I saw it disappearing off on a track in the woods. Don't think he gave a hoot about me and was just getting on with his own thing!!πŸ™‚

Thanks, Sandra! 🦊🦊🦊 Funny creatures. Wild, but curious about us humans, I think! So many of them in London, and they are pretty streetwise and unafraid of us hoomins.

Sounds absolutely wonderful! You are cruising towards that podium! I'm sitting looking at the rain through the window and feeling zero motivation to go out and do W9R1. Had the same problem yesterday. But reading this has spurred me on and I WILL do it today!

Thanks siobhp! It does feel totally do-able now. And, the best thing, I am loving it. Really hope I can maintain this love post-grad - am certainly going to work at it.

Seems it is raining everywhere but London today. β˜”οΈ I hope you do get out! It is a magical run, WK9R1, I am sure you will smash it! Enjoy, my dear. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈβ˜”οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I'm going, rain or no rain. Thanks for the encouragment, I need it for some reason! Let's hope I get those robot legs too!

So then siobhp ...

Running along a beach with the waves gently crashing across a white sanded beach as the sunlight dances and shimmers through your hair as you glide gracefully along with the sounds of birds and the ocean.......

Or

Running along getting hot and sweaty getting soaked with your sodden hair plastered across your face and getting drenched by the occasional idiot that doesnt think to avoid the big puddle as they pass a pedestrian.

You probably know which one you prefer but which one will give you the most satisfaction after you have done it?

Looking forward to reading your W9R1 post later

You're right! I have to go. I feel like it's now or never, I've totally lost the desire to go and do it for some reason. My work meetings keep getting changed and giving me excuses not to go. Plus the rain of course, managed to avoid running in the rain so far. Right I'm going at lunchtime, that's it. Will report back! Thanks for the push.
