Not running based but chuffed

Today I stepped on the scales and had finally lost the 3st (42lbs) of fat I set myself as a target back in April...

pic on left is me last June (2016) when my son was born... pic on right today...

Running is fast becoming the main focus of my fitness regime and I am sure that the last few weeks from when I started this challenge have helped give me a turbo boost and get me past the post.

Having you all here to give support and advice is invaluable and people at work and my family must be bored to death of me banging on about how good the C25K and the forum is... but if I can get just one person to try it and like it .. I will be happy πŸ˜ƒ

Wow! Well done on the weight loss, Tony. More than that, you just look so healthy! Runners' glow. πŸ˜€ The good thing about running is that it makes you think more holistically about your lifestyle choices generally - including what you eat, drink, whether you take the stairs or lift etc.

Good work!

Well done SwissTony .. an inspiration. I started this last week in August and have lost a stone with plenty more to go. My first week on the forum I saw the message β€œthis is not a weight loss programme” but I decided OK but it’s got to help!! Great to see such an impact.. congratulations and thanks for sharing.

swisstony4 profile image
swisstony4Graduate in reply to Richard7

Thanks Richard, it’s a hard slog losing the fat but so rewarding.. watching everything you eat and getting active.

The C25k program helps with the latter, as it’s so easy to follow and very low cost to get started but it has to go hand in hand with a healthy diet.

No point in running and getting fit if you eat crap.

I enjoyed finding new foods and challenging myself to trying a new food stuff at least twice a week and it totally opened my eyes to new food opportunities.

Richard7 profile image
Richard7Graduate in reply to swisstony4

I think because of the challenge doing C25K it makes me say to myself why waste all that good work by eating rubbish. Eating better too but by the sound of things not as much as you :)

My job involves sitting at a desk all day .. worse still I work from home. At the moment this is just about the only exercise I am getting and it is making a huge difference. Starting to think of other ways to be more active.

swisstony4 profile image
swisstony4Graduate in reply to Richard7

I am a sales rep out on the road and spend most of my time either in a car between meetings or sat on meeting, my home office days are a nightmare I hardly ever move and it is a real challenge. So I feel your pain on that point.

My main point regarding diet was cutting out processed foods and cooking from scratch, with fresh protein and veggies etc, also eat a LOT of salads and cut out bread (service station sandwiches) by around 90%.

As well as the usual eat more fruit etc and ditch snacking on crisps chocolate and the usual high calorie foods.

Kept a food diary using the MyFitnessPal app and made sure my calories out was more than my calories in.

Exercise wise small changes make a massive difference, I started by just walking, 30 mins then 1 hours whenever I could find the time. Then once I got more self confidence joined a health club about 3 months ago and started the C25K about a month ago.

It was small steps at a time but as you get more confident and fitter it gets easier.

Well done for starting the program, you will not regret it and if time is a constraint, don’t worry about missing a day and doing the run a day later, there is no time limit to the course.

And just enjoy a brisk walk on your day off, being careful not to wear yourself out though !

Walking is ace and burns a surprising amount of calories.

Great news on the weight loss! Eating healthily need never be dull πŸ™‚πŸ‘πŸƒ

I didn't lose an ounce from running; I lost it from a WFPB diet before I started running. I ate as much as I wanted and the weight gradually came off--a pound a week. I was never hungry.

Tony! You star! You've not only lost 3stone, you've lost years! What an incredible achievement. Well done.
