I have been taking sertraline to help me sleep and for anxiety but I’m not sure if anxiety pills work if you take them at night, does anyone know if they do?

Welcome.

This is a running forum and I suspect that it was not where you intended your post to end up. There may well be people here who can answer your question but I suggest you try some other, more relevant Healthunlocked community. If you click the My Communities button you can browse them all.

Sertraline doesn’t have a direct effect on anxiety or sleeplessness, so it doesn’t matter when you take your pill. What’s important is that you take your pill everyday at the same time, because Sertraline is cleared from your body fairly quick (when you compare them to other pills from the same class of medicine) so if you’re body is without the medicine you’ll experience withdrawal symptoms very soon (this isn’t the same as being addicted to a pill, it just means that you have to be sure to take your pill on a regular basis and when you’re ready to go without the medication, you’ll have to take a few weeks to take small steps of lower dosages of the pill, so your body gets used to the lower dosages and you’ll won’t suffer withdrawal symptoms).

Hiya, as IannodaTruffe has said this probably isn't where you intended to post but I see that someone also who has some knowledge has answered as well rightfully explaining about withdrawal and taking them at the same time every day.

As someone who has been on a couple of different antidepressants I would talk to your medical professional about it, because everyone's different and they should have a better overview as well as knowing your medical history. For example my own experience on Sertraline is different from yours as it made me stop sleeping*, so it may be misleading for me to give you advice from my experience.

Finally ... you might search this running forum for "depression" or "anxiety". You may have stumbled into something that you might think of trying one day x

EDIT to clarify, I mean I seemed to have a side effect of insomnia. If it isn't supposed to have a direct effect then I wouldn't know what's really happening, but both inability to sleep AND feeling sleepy are listed as common side effects (e.g. on NHS website).
