W8R2 - brought down to earth with a bump!

Literally! one of those pesky tree roots got the better of me this morning and ten minutes into the run I fell into the mud, foolishly just when my pace had quickened as a faster track came on! That'll teach me - snails don't sprint.πŸ˜ƒ Checked myself over, thankfully no damage so decided to gently continue and kept going until time was up.

Pride goes before a fall, I reflected, and it made me think how I am still very much a novice runner - it's only been 8 weeks after all. I also wondered whether some of the mental battles we face are because we expect quick results - C25k works amazingly fast but we can't maintain that rapid progress as we move through the programme and beyond. Consolidation may not be the most exciting concept but that's what I need to do - how about we call it mastery, a phrase that's back in fashion in education?!

Plus, I can tell that the last five runs have really had an impact and so I'm going to rest for two days between runs from now on as I knew my legs had felt heavier this morning - hence my tumble! πŸ™‚

That's enough musings from a philosophical snail - for all those running today, be kind to yourself πŸ™‚

Be kind indeed! We all fall! It's par for the course. Dust ourselves off and get back to it. Having an extra day off is fine. No hurry πŸ™‚

Thank you, misswobble, I'm glad I'm not the only one! πŸ™‚ Will make the most of my extra rest day too.

For a rubber ball to reach its greatest height first it must hit the floor!

Wipe the mud off. Have a brew and just be glad that you were out there doing it.

Take the extra rest days between the runs. Especially now that the runs are longer. Everyone has their own podium put to one side the day they start this program. Some stand on it after 9 weeks and some after a few years. It is not a race.

But they all get to stand on it.

Thank you so much for your encouragement, it really means so much - I love the bouncing ball concept πŸ™‚

Must say I don't think I would have got away with only a couple of bruises before I started this running lark, does that mean I've got more resilient?! Will take advantage of the extra rest day and run R3 on my favourite day, Friday 13th!

Well done you have done really well! I have just done Week 8 Run 2 as well and I started quite a while ago but have repeated weeks as I found some quite hard, then I repeated weeks by mistake, had a holiday etc so probably about 20 weeks! I have also done some Parkruns, not run all the way round but run and walk which I have really enjoyed and I am finding these last few runs relatively easy. We havent got much farther to go now. Good luck for your next run I am planning on doing Week 8 Run 3 Thursday xx

Thank you so much - I'll be thinking of you on Thursday but it sounds as though you've got it covered. Isn't it telling that you're finding the runs relatively easy? youve obviously built up great stamina and must be very committed to keep going despite all your distractions! Enjoy! πŸ˜‰

I think the resting is a good idea, if I had my time again I would have done an extra day or so resting, towards the end.

It is so easy to trip and fall especially when we have started feeling confident and running that bit faster...

Consolidation a great word and a great plan.
