Fancy joining the Fugly running club, worst 5k first 10k

Working towards the Brighton 10k

Graduated 3 or 4 weeks ago can’t remember

Music was the 3 early Bon Jovi albums newly found on iTunes

4th Park run

Keeping up on the 1 day intervals (quickiesh ),1 day 5k( working on improving me time) and then 1 distance day (slow and steady?

So I firstly admit I feel a bit of a fraud here now as I’ve graduated and maintaining the 5k, but hadn’t made it to 10k to move on to the 10k group. But I had a plan and thought if you’d have me I’d update in both as there are 2 sides to my story.

I wanted to make sure I had an idea on how close I would have been to be able to do 10k and thought I’d just follow on with another park run 5k and as it’s a 3 lap track i could always just do an extra lap and build on things incrementally if it was a total disaster and at least there would be people around if i needed help. (Longest distance so far is 4.4 miles ish and not any major fall out yet)

Well I did it, did a slow and steady Park run 5k and then did the track in reverse so as not to interfere with other park runners.

And I’m really pleased with my time and importantly how I feel. No major aches and pains, I know I’ve run a way, but strangely at 5miles it seemed everything went zen and I lost any sensation of the endurance. It may have been I slowed a bit too far looking at my splits, but now I know I’ll make the 10, in less than 1hr 20 which we my high level original goal. I hope I can now take 30-60 secs of the minute miles as it does seem I have some spare in the tank, cautiously not over doing it.

One more thing that is a bit unsettling though and I wil have to work on, if you do park run you would know it’s been their 13th anniversary so in Horsham we had a photographer. Now I know I have a problem of looking down and therefore my forms not great, and as I kept pushing the distance it really was just keep my head down and plug on. Well unfortunately I now have the proof.

So, anyone with me in wanting to be a Fugly runner?

Feel free to post here. Your post grad progress may well inspire newer runners, to whom your position may seem unattainable. There are plenty of graduates hanging around here, simply because they have nothing better to do with their lives.

You sound very structured in your running and look like you are making great progress. Well done.

Keep running, keep smiling.
