A very bad week but with a happy ending...

So I completed wk2 on a high, nervous but excited about wk3...however..following my first 12 hour shift I managed to hurt my right foot somewhere between bed and the bottom of the stairs. Things were not looking good for my Saturday run especially as I had 3 more shifts in steelies to contend with. By Friday the foot was about 95% fit and I was feeling good about the run. Sadly this was not to be...violent sneezing, a nose that would not stop running, temperature, etc on Friday heralded the flu😷. So Saturday was spent in bed feeling bloody miserable. (Oh did I mention it was my birthday as well). This morning I literally rolled out of bed, feeling slightly more human, saw hubby off to work, and ignoring all advice, threats and medical advice got myself dressed and went out in the dark and drizzle to attempt wk3r1......30 minutes later I walked with a big grin on my face..whilst crying and sniveling, home after successfully completing it. I might not have covered as much ground as I usually do, but I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done. Sometimes the hardest thing in the world is to tie those laces and run when all we really want to do is have a duvet day!!

Keep up the running!!

Thanks! I think it was guilt that drove me on and I want to prove to my family that I can do it, so I really really want to get to that graduating run...

Guilt can be a wonderful thing when we want it to be!! I haven't even told my family that I'm doing it, the only ones that know are my children and they've been sworn to secrecy until I graduate!!

I keep asking hubby and my 2 girls if they want to come with me, knowing that they won't, but being secretly glad because this is "my" thing. And I'm determined to end up being able to complete a park run.

Thank you! I've just planned out a 5k route using a distance calculated app. Starting with my next run I'm going to follow the amended route which should then show how much distance I'm covering. I'm not too worried about an extra 5-10 minutes cool down walk at the end. It's a good route with gentle ups and downs.

If you have a smartphone - I started using RunKeeper at W1R2 which shows me how far I am going and how fast. Not worried about speed but gives me an idea whether I am pushing myself too hard or otherwise. Also gives me an added boost - eg email telling me how much distance and time I ran for in September which was nice to see yesterday. I am going really slowly about 10mins/km.

I think that’s called b***** mindedness - well done you - I am sure that determination will set you in good stead during the challenging stages of the runs.
