3RD 5K RUN ON NEW TERRITORY - CHALLENGING 😁

I completed my 3rd personal 5K this morning. My best friend was out walking her dog with her partner and spotted me, she wasn't sure if it was me at first, until I got closer when she could see my red face 🀣

I was on my 2nd lap and paused my Fitbit for 2 mins, but kept moving about on the spot, not to lose momentum, haha, then I continued. Had a tightness in chest on the last lap and felt a slight panic attack and felt very hot, but different to the heat from running, but I carried on. Felt a bit odd since then, as if I'm in for a cold, but I'm so glad I persevered and on new territory too, so that was challenging, but I think a change of route now and again is good when running.

Also achieved 124 plus miles for September. My challenge was for 150, especially as I was on holiday, but time wouldn't allow, so I've gone for the 100 miles instead. For me, personally, I tend to need a push to do things like this, so by me gaining confidence with my health etc, I'm setting these little challenges which don't put too much pressure on me and they give me confidence to keep going. Never done this before either. I think a medal and tee shirt is offered for the challenges. Anything for a medal πŸ˜‚

I think of everyone doing their best on here and this is what keeps me going. You are all top runners in my eyes, truly the best who have started from scratch at some point in their lives. Rooting for you all.

Hope this Relive link works guys. I don't know why Strava has a different time, but correct time is from my Fitbit.

Thanks for reading this xx

Well done Beth, you are doing amazingly well. XxX

Good for you for trying new territory and seeing yourself through the challenges QB! That's a lot of miles for September! I signed up for my first virtual medal next week too. Gotta do 10 miles in 1 week. Just something to keep motivated like you say.

Wow, that's brill Decker, I have faith that you can do it too. I managed about 124 miles, bht I think venturing for 150, it was a little optimistic, haha still, I did the majority in Italy, walked everywhere, so that boosted my mileage. Contemplating tthe October one now but I'll reduce it this time 🀣🀣

I often need a push to be active, so that's why I'm doing these challenges. Thanks again, oh and new territory is good to try.

Thanks QB! I just checked my tracker and I seem to be averaging around 50 km a week now that I'm back on the c210 program. Italy is a fine place to get your steps in though, I bet :). I need incentive too. Never tried a virtual medal before. Hope they accept fitbit screen grabs 😬

Hi Decker 😊

Yes, why don't you try a virtual walk/run, it's boosts me and gets me moving even if sometimes I don't feel like it. I'm going to go for October's too, but less mileage. I've got the Wales GB (was WRC) Rally at the end of October, so I should be walking a fair bit from early morning til late at night, when we see the service cars come in. It's worth a try.

With tthe fitbit screenshot Decker, I clicked on the section where you can display stats by week, month, 2 months etc and it displayed my distance from 1 Sept to 30 Sept. So long as you can display that you've completed your chosen distance as evidence, they're happy. If you don't do as much, you get a tee shirt, but no medal. Go on, try it, lol.

Might be something for you to consider, go on, you know it makes sense πŸ˜‚

Thanks QB, I may give it a go with an actual virtual run next time around! My fitbit is a first gen. Charge and so I may not see as much data as the newer models. The most I see are week slots, which works because thats all i need to show for this one:). I've sort if promised myself that if I can do a real 10k race in the spring then I will get a new watch. But I still feel loyalty to this one as it guilted me off the couch in the first place and got me here πŸ˜€ Even though its hard to read the tiny numbers

Good luck on the Wales GB rally too! Sounds like it will be fun!

Ah, thanks my lovely. I have the new Charge 2 and it seems good so far. I like the Garmin and the gen on that, but must stick to this one for now. As you say, it got us off the couch, haha. See how go now and next spring. Good luck lovely 😊

Well done, that's amazing! How long did it take you to build up to 5k? I'm still at the consolidation stage. My longest run was 33mins but would need to run around 45mins to get to 5k, so still far from it!

quirkybee profile image
quirkybeeGraduate in reply to Beatlesforever

Hi Beatles, I did my my first 5k on my graduation day and I did a post for it, I think it was 47 minutes. It is slow, but I warned those with me that I couldn't run and talk, though I think some were surprised at that, as I can talk and talk, lol.

When I did my 2nd 5k last Tuesday, I think it was in 37 minutes. I run better on my own as I find I need to concentrate on my breathing for the first 15 minutes, it then seems to regulate better, so talking aswell definately slows me down, haha. I'm sure with time, I will be able to do it, but for now they'll have to have a silent runner with them πŸ˜‚

Beatlesforever profile image
BeatlesforeverGraduate in reply to quirkybee

That's really impressive! I don't think I could manage 40+ minutes, talk or no talk lol I'll keep plodding on and increase my running time slowly ☺️

quirkybee profile image
quirkybeeGraduate in reply to Beatlesforever

Best way to approach it, you'll do it for sure. I'm. Not competitive really, would prefer to be fitter and run for longer. You'll get there, mark my words. Good luck πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Wow that’s a lot of miles in one month!! Maybe I should start with the challenges πŸ˜†

Thanks for the motivational post

You're welcome Caroline, everyone's help me too, we all need bit of motivation, I know I do.

Blimey over 120 miles in September, that's 4 miles every day, are you including your walking elements? I just checked my own runners log and I am woeful in comparison to your levels. Wow seriously impressed with your activity. Nicely done QB....

quirkybeeGraduate in reply to

Aww, thanks Jan. I don't think I would have done that much if I had not been on holiday. God knows why I opted for 150 initially, but I need to do things like this to keep me active. It's walking as much as I can, and, or run. Thank you.

in reply to quirkybee

doesn't matter if its walking or running thats oodles on your feet. well done you!

Well done!! That is an amazing amount of miles! Crazy that a few months ago you would not have have even thought of doing anywhere near that!! So long πŸ›‹ πŸ₯” !!

quirkybee profile image
quirkybeeGraduate in reply to Polly2810

That's true Polly. Since I had the fitbit, it has changed my attitude toward exercise and encouraged me to be active more. Good for my mental health too. Not that I have any issues there, though friends would say I'm totally crazy, in a fun way πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚Can be difficult to get motivated, but I keep thinking that a little bit every day will do me good.

Thank you.

Well done Quirkybee. You're so right about a change of route being good. I'm off for a tourist run this morning if I can get myself out of bed. πŸ˜‚

quirkybee profile image
quirkybeeGraduate in reply to Razouski

Hi Razouski

Yes, it was a challenge because with my usual route when doing the podcast, I would know where I would roughly finish on the road. Good in a way, but not sometimes. With a new route, apart from checking your time, you are new too it and it gives you a different sense of your whereabouts and its a challenge.

Polly2810 profile image
Polly2810Graduate in reply to Razouski

Change of route not good for me got a bit lost!! 😊🀣

Razouski profile image
Razouski in reply to Polly2810

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

You're in good company. I set off on my run from the house we're renting and even though I'd worked my route out in advance, I got completely lost and ended up heading off even further away than I'd intended. Fortunately I spotted another runner who was able to point me in the right direction

As it was my planned shorter run turned into 9km.

I never was great at geography . 🀣

quirkybee profile image
quirkybeeGraduate in reply to Razouski

That's fab lovely, that turned out as a nice surprise on the mileage, haha 😊

quirkybee profile image
quirkybeeGraduate in reply to Polly2810

Oh never? I need to suss out other routes, it's lucky that mine was in a circle, as I'm hopeless with direction on times, lol. At least you tried Polly, better luck next time 😊

quirkybeeGraduate in reply to Razouski

Good luck Raz, or rather, how did you get on?

Good for you Beth...sounds like you’re still enjoying it, working it all out & setting your challenges..another top & a medal? Sounds perfect!! X

quirkybee profile image
quirkybeeGraduate in reply to Mummycav

Thanks Bev, appreciate that. Getting there slowly, I don't always look forward to it, but once I'm doing it, that seems to change it then. You're doing fabulous though, you're getting into the park runs too, that's brill. Wish I had more time on wk end for those though. Well done lovely x

well done on your run and your mileage challenge. You are amazing! I gave up on Strava, it kept starting when I hadn't asked it to and not starting when I wanted it and giving weird distances that I certainly hadn't done. May try mapmyrun as others on here have mentioned it.

quirkybee profile image
quirkybeeGraduate in reply to KoKo30

Hi KoKo,

Tell mme about it... Strava is good in most ways, but I think the time us slightly out or as you said, it's hit abd miss. My friend and I start ours fir cycling at the same time and hers always record slightly more mileage. Very odd.

I have Map my Walk and Run and I think they're quite good, worth a try KoKo. I've also downloaded Runtastic. I'll double check I have that right, but pretty sure it is. May try that as well as my Fitbit on next run and report back. I'll try the map my run too. We can see what they report 😊 Thank you.
