You’ve got to start somewhere mate, and this is the best way to begin. Perhaps you can ditch them fags while you’re at it

PS

Yep ex smoker is back, 60 years old chap and smoked all my life

chucked the fags in March, started putting the weight on soon after.

Found cto5k and took the challenge, ran a k5 on September 9th raising just over £500 for charity

Just got back from my holiday today where I was accompanied by my running shoes and enjoyed some good runs, lots of walking and some swimming

One of my runs I actually ran yes ran up a cliff path, get in

I have just finished run 3 of week one, I also smoke, of a certain age and overweight, I just see it as I cannot smoke when I am doing the session, then tend to busy myself for an hour or so afterwards. So no I have not gave up, but I am the sort of person who would light a cigarette the second she got outside. I am finding its all about baby steps.

Good luck and you will get there, I have found this site very encouraging and has kept my motivation going.

Hello Anthony, I gave up smoking a year before I started this challenge and I'm now about to start week 7 of C25K so I'm proof that ex smokers certainly can do this. Just take it really slowly and gently and if you can try and pack up the ciggies too that would definitely help.

Wishing you the very best of luck and keep posting so we can see how you are getting on :)

Hey Tony

You either cancel smoking or smoking may cancel many a good thing that running brings along.

As an ex-smoker I didn’t go through patches, hypnosis, cutting down or whatever else, I simply quit there and then having realised what the habit was doing to my blood pressure. I’m also 50+

Running transformed me, my mood, sleeping, overall health, one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Go for it, man!

Hi there! Replace one addiction for another (better) one! I gave up smoking 6 years ago - best thing I ever did. Second best thing? I took up running. The high you get from running is FAR better than that you get from cigs. Find a forum for giving up smoking too - peer support increases your chances of success.

We will support you all the way. Honestly, this running programme works like a dream. I am halfway through. First week I struggled with running 60 seconds (though I did it), week 5 and I am running for 5 mins at a time. Not bad eh?

You WILL get to 5k. 😀
