W7R1 - OMG the hills!

Having run the longer runs on a treadmill, today I ran around the park. Who knew there were contours? It was tough so I ended up stopping for a few steps of walking at the top of each slope. I know I shouldn't beat myself up about this but I am disappointed not to be able to keep going. Just shows I need to do more running outside.

Running up hill is so hard when you start out but it really does improve your stamina & fitness. Lean forward, take smaller steps and it will help you get to the top. Slow down too. I'm on W6 and running up the gradients on my usual route that I wimped out on in W3 when all the running sections were up hill! Well done for running outside - the wind/ rain/ sun on your face, fresh air, birds singing, autumn colours 😍- it replenishes the soul! Good luck with the contours 👍

I always change the incline on my treadmill, I never have it on 0, minimum of 1%, sometimes as high as 6-7.

Treadmill vs trails vs tarmac they are all very different. Don't beat yourself up about it, but just add this one to your running experiences...

Now you know what you need to do and can plan accordingly.

Well done you...

I left "hills" (my friends says they are slopes) until quite late on and they do make a difference, so I do understand. I ended up running a bit up a hill and rather than stop, turned round and ran down it. I ended up doing circles on one occasion. You did do the hills even if there were a few walking steps :) Now apart from one, I can keep going and it has taken less time than I would have thought, so push on, it will strengthen your legs (nice shapely calves). Another thing outside is the camber in the road can make a difference too, so look out for that too.
