Time to change.

I was fit, very fit, OK it was a long time ago now. I was an Infantry Soldier, then a climber and then after being diagnosed with PTSD Anxiety and depression my weight steadily increased and my fitness decreased. I regularly walk my lovely German Shepherd "Mini" but seem stuck at 15 and a half stone! My diet needs to change and I need to back off the booze. Mentally I'm in a good place now but physically I am not!

My aim is to lose 2 stone and regain some of my former self belief.

Ignore the scales for a while. I have been running for 5 months (started will not being able to run for 30 seconds to now 10 miles) I started at 14 stone and now still 14 stone BUT my body has changed soo much it is unbelievable, so think of clothes as a guide line and good luck.

Welcome to your new support group.

This programme has already turned round tens of thousands of lives. The impact of such a simple training plan is not to be underestimated.

Running alone is unlikely to lose you much weight but you will feel better and not want to compromise your hard run gains by eating crap and overdrinking, so you will probably find your lifestyle improves in many areas.

One warning, as ex military you may look at this and think it is a bit soft, but once you have lost that former fitness and advancing years have taken their toll, you are in the same place as so many others and your injury risk is also the same. So please follow the plan, take your rest days and in just a few weeks you will be running for thirty minutes non stop and new horizons will be opening before you.

I did this plan four years ago and my general fitness and mental health is better than any other time in my life.

Good luck and tell us how you get on.

Yes, this is great. Thank you ☺

Aw jeez you have been through the eye of the storm! Well done on regaining yourself and not getting lost forever. Im sure it has taken huge strength to get back onto dry land and feel like yourself. Sending huge kudos to you! Im glad to hear that mentally you're back in a good place now because genuinely that is the crux of it all. No effort, no matter how momentous, will ever get you the results you want until your mind is straight and you know what you're aiming for. I'm cheering you on!!

Hi and welcome... you have had some great replies... and you are on the way!

A healthy eating regime linked with this great programme could be just what you are looking for.

But... be kind you yourself... take it steady and slow...make sure you have your rest days and keep walking your dog... plus adding some extra core strength and stamina exercise in too, on rest days!

Listen to your body and do not try to address all your issues in one go... slow and steady, as you will gather if you stay with us... are my middle names... why? because it works...:)

Keep posting for amazing support and encouragement and maybe take a peek a this forum too? Many folk on here are on there also !

Hello and welcome!

Use the podcast or the app and get started. Slow and steady, just aim to finish each run.....there are no prizes for speed or distance in this programme. Here is a link to the podcasts

Always take your rest days.

You have discipline from your earlier career. Draw on that for help with diet and to curb the alcohol, which will compliment the programme and aid your weight loss.

You could also try this forum:

Come back and tell us how you are doing, we will be your running buddies if that is what you want.

Enjoy! You can do this!
