Argh!!! What have I let myself in for?

Hi, I am 51 and never even run for a bus, but through some very sad events regarding some family friends I have been roped into doing a marathon next year. So just been out for some running shoes etc, and will be starting the C to 5K tonight. I don't normally post on forums, but feel I may need some support and encouragement ;)

Hopefully I will have enough energy later to let you know how I get on. Wish me luck

I'm sorry for your news. You'll do just fine and I hope that running helps to free your mind of all you have going on, even for a short while. I've just started this week and the people on this forum are really supportive. You have a whole community running with you 😃

Good luck, just go slow and steady. This community is excellent and has helped me out a lot in the last 7 weeks.

Good luck on your journey, don't forget to keep updated on your progress.

Hi Wendy😊

Good luck starting the c25k plan tonight. Take the run sections nice and steady, just a light jog is all that's required.

Have fun.😊

I've been going for 5 weeks now and like you thought I could never do this, I have learnt that you need to keep it slow and steady and you will get there. Good luck.

Hi there and welcome.. the sad news is upsetting, but the good news is you are here with us:)

Take it as Bluebirdrunner says, slowly and steadily..listen to your body and take your est days. Break those new shoes in gently and mostly... enjoy.

Post as often as you can, success and set back, asks any questions you like and we will support and encourage you all the way :)

I have done the runs 1 & 2 of week one this week. I am not training for a marathon but I can assure you that run number one felt like one for me ... until I did it. Now I might be preempting myself here but I think I like running now and I know that you can do this too.

Well, I did it!!!!! I cannot believe it, I am still alive. I was just getting to the point where I thought I cannot run anymore (well I say run, more of a hoppity jog) and I was told to do the cool down walk. So ended up doing an extra 20 minute walk home. Thank you all for your support xxx

Well done Wendy😊..

Enjoy your rest day/s before W1 R2. Its good to do some gentle stretching after your warm down walk while your muscles are still warm.

Keep posting😊

Hi Wendy, I'm new here too. Sorry to hear of your circumstances, but well done on setting yourself a personal

Challenge ... a marathon ! Looking forward to sharing our progress as we all aim for our targets and achieve our goals. I have no advice as I'm a 44 yr old novice too, but I'm sensing there is a lot of support on here to keep us going. I'm on wk 2. We can do this !!

Hi Tracy, well it was only decided last night to aim for a marathon to raise money for Winston's Wish who have supported a family friend through a terrible few months. So no time like the present to start. I only signed up to this site an hour before I set off on my 'run', but already feel very positive and supported. So thank you everyone xxx

Well done on getting out there and trying, it is more than lots of people do. I completed C25K a few months back and am training for a half marathon in 3 weeks time, running will get under your skin, takes your mind away from your troubles and you will love it. Good luck.

Good luck! A lot here are older than you (including me). Some people tend to look ahead and dread Week 5, or Week 7, or whatever, but I've found it better not to anticipate, I just do what the app tells me each day and have achieved it so far (Week 6 Run 2). The forum is lovely, lots of support, laughter and a few tears too.

Hi there ! Hope your run went well! I'm sure it did. You've come to the right place for support!

Sorry to hear you sad news, but hopefully doing the C25K will clear your mind.

Anyhoo! Happy running 😀😀
