First time running in the rain! Any tips please?

Hello! My next run will be W4R2 and for the first time since I started it's raining.

I'm so amazed and happy to have got this far, and I really don't want to be put off by getting soaking wet! Does anyone have any tips? Is it worth buying a waterproof running jacket?

Thank you!

I think my first run in the rain was about week 4 aswell. I actually don't wear anything different at all, I know some people like a light waterproof, but I think that would just annoy me. I actually now love running in the rain, I prefer it so much more! You don't get too hot, and there's not many people around. You just have to be careful not to slip!

oh that's great to hear! I think I probably need to just get out there and see what it's like instead of worrying about it. Thanks for the advice, falling flat on my face may also risk putting me off a bit...!

Running in the rain is great fun! Unless it's monsoon conditions I don't bother with a waterproof, once you're concentrating on not slipping or landing in big holes you don't notice it too much, You'll also have the advantage of feeling cooler and blaming the rain for the soggy clothes rather than sweat!

Go for it, enjoy, and well done for getting this far!

Thank you! I need to stop looking out the window and get out there! I'm so happy to have got this far I really want to carry on.

Most folk would tell you, that you end up as wet inside as out...but I do have a very light Ron Hill waterproof breathable jacket.. for if it is really bucketing down when I head out :)

But...if it rains when you are already out... it is just wet! You get dry, you dry your gear and you have a hot shower... brilliant!

I was wondering about that jacket, it's really pouring. Maybe it will just give me the motivation to go out whatever the weather. I'm worried more about catching cold but I think the hot shower sounds fantastic!

.. and I did forget the cap and the neck Buff for winter and really cold runs:)

A neck buff? I need to Google that! This is a steeper learning curve than I thought, but it's exciting!

Oh yes... a Buff... stops raindrop drips... snow-flakes, wind , hail and pretty much everything!

Depends on temp wether I wear a jacket, as at the moment it's still above 10degc, so personally would get too hot when running, would rather just get wet, but like to wear a running cap where the peak helps keep the rain off my glasses and also has a sweat band incorporated which stops the salty sweat running into my eyes making them sting..

ah yes a cap, I didn't even think of that. So much to learn! But am loving it so far...

I have a running cap to keep my beautiful locks nice and tidy (see my profile pic to get that gag!) but it also helps steam my specs so that adds to the fun!

Maybe a visor or something to keep it out of your eyes -- my biggest problem is getting it on my glasses. Otherwise it's totally OK, it's not usually bucketing.

I found my waterproof just made me sweat more than the rain it was keeping off, so now it is staying in its drawer, until there's proper humdinging, ouchy rain.

But the hat that's a good idea, dripping hair is really irritating...

Thank you all for your comments and advice! In the end I found a half price lightweight rain jacket and bought that, and it hasn't rained since! So I'm still to experience running in the rain (and will probably find I don't need it!)
