When will it "grip" me?

Week 4 now, run 2 today. Hubby has been doing 5k easily & happily for about a year (in 25mins)- that's my eventual aim but.......when does enjoyment start? Or at least a lack of dread?

I do have an underlying health issue which does make me wary but I do want to achieve this!

Well of course everyone is different and I guess some folk are never 'gripped'. I felt engaged from the first run in that I was determined to complete the programme and to run for 30 minutes. By about week 6 and 7, I felt a degree of confidence and a massive sense of achievement that I was moving (?running?).

I have always loved the feeling AFTER a run🤙🏻😁🏃‍♀️

I graduated at the beginning of July and went on to run 5k and last week got to 10k. I can't tell you when but at some point I have been seized, grabbed, gripped, grasped, hugged, kidnapped by and married to running! I LOVE IT and cannot imagine my life without it.

Keep at it, I'm sure if you persevere you will get the bug🏃‍♀️🏃👍❤️

Well done you on getting this far into the programme. I love running but came back from a 2 year lapse (for a reason I still don't really understand). At the moment, W4, 5 and 6 are building up your intervals and can be quite tough physically. When you're building up the stamina I think ' running love' is the last thing on your mind.

What i found was like Hidden that there were bits of a run, or a particular day or even sometimes just one moment when it felt brilliant. One of my best moment was running for 3 minutes solid - don't laugh honestly it was. And only because I thought I could credibly run after a bus if I had to... What a damn stupid milestone now, but at the time it really counted.

If you have a health issue, then quite naturally that will make you wary, but next time out maybe it's worth seeing if there's just one thing that you liked about the run? It may not be the run itself, one of my biggest pleasures is seeing an old couple who take a daily walk. If I didn't run, I wouldn't know them and that is one pleasure I'd miss out on.

I hope you find your running love...

Happy running - oh and Week 4 - brilliant progress.... :)

If you are approaching each run with dread, it is unlikely you will ever enjoy the experience.

Are you running by yourself?

You put me in mind of a friend who trained for and ran a marathon with her former husband and told me she never enjoyed a moment of it! Running is a personal experience and being with others, especially more accomplished runners, can be dispiriting.

Some, never do find the love and are destined to give up running, unless they are incredibly obstinate. I hope you do discover the joy that most of us experience.

I do run on my own, hubby would annoy me even tho he says hell slow down to support me.

I never dread it, just want to like it the way others do-maybe it's just early doors but I will persevere. I do yoga, Zumba and body ball and love all of them so I'm gunna keep on trying-gotta get my money's worth out of the Brooks OH got me 😬

Dread was the word you used.........

My only other suggestion is that you try slowing down, relax into the run, not force it through pushing too hard. I remember those last few weeks being hard work, but I was consciously pushing myself and I was already hooked. I didn't cut myself any slack until I graduated, then discovered the joys of running slowly.

Give it a go, it might work

We are all so different and I tend to agree with IannodaTruffe ... you may never feel the love...if you want to finish this, for you.. then do it... but if each run is dreaded... then maybe another focus :)

I would wish you, the joys I get from all aspects of my running... but we cannot make it so, for you. I want to you to do this, I want you to stay with us here, and I want you to have fun...but..only you know if this is for you :)

You do say, though, that you want to achieve it... but you are a little wary.. so... maybe, do what I do. I logged and wrote a report on every run I did and do... ( Long rambles on here too)..

Maybe start keeping a diary log of your runs.. put down all you see and feel.. look around as you run and remember it.. then write it...see how you are progressing, see how you are feeling...stronger, fitter, more relaxed :) .Running for me, is about so much more than the run...it is all about the whole journey :)

Keep us posted please:)
