Which foam roller?

I've read everyone's posts regarding foam rollers so nipped over to the local supermarket here in California and I now have this beast. They had gentler looking ones but this size will fit in my small case when I am travelling on business.

So is this the right sort or too extreme? It looks painful just to look at?

How often should I 'roll'?

Just the legs or all over?

Does it get less painful? Tried it today after run and it was #%*^%# painful.

Seriously though guys and gals, despite having bought something that looks like it would be more at home in some dodgy shop in Amsterdam, how often should I be using it and should I only be doing the legs?

How big is your small case, this looks humongous... it's bigger than the minibar...

Haven't got one so sorry can't help, but good luck getting that through Customs...

Its about 1 and 1/3 the length of a loaf of Warburtons.

I work for a firm that designs and builds for aircraft that hold the engine cowlings together and the emergency door handles and passenger handles etc. Always amusing being stopped when my hand luggage is scanned and they want to know why I have aircraft parts in my case.

For the Orange Foamy Perv-o-max I may feel a longer description will be required.

Ummm.... what is it meant to be for? Is it meant to be some kind of massage thing? Seriously there is no way of writing that sentence...! 🙈🙈🙈

Oo-er! Seriously, foam rollers are great, but you do need to use them correctly. Go and You-Tube them, but you are looking for slow movements, not fast, and unfortunately, over the point of most discomfort :O If you look at the Runners World website they may have some links on there. I know there was a post on here recently but I'm sorry I can't find it.

But s-l-o-w is the key :)

Ah The Beast 😩 I've got one of those. I couldn't do without mine and use it every day but as with running you need to build up to that. Check proper useage on YouTube as you can do damage if they're not used properly but they'll hurt like bu** ery when you first use them. In fact, I'm still finding tight little spots after all this time!

You can use them on the soft parts of your body, ie not over bone. So, your calves, hamstrings, quads, ITB, glutes, etc. But they work wonders to keep your running bod as loose and supple as possible. I have been able to erase soreness with a few sessions of a roller when otherwise I would have gone to the physio.

Enjoy the results but you'll to suffer a bit first 😩 😂

I have a more civilised looking roller but have only used it once, it is still in it's cellophane, but (after seeing something on this site) have bought another one - a very slender yoke. Haven't unwrapped it from it's packaging.

Have to secrete them with all the other lovely running gear that I haven't wore yet!
