W6r1 what!!!

Just done the dreaded w6r1, I was on an absolute high after the 20min w5 run on Friday and thought anything was possible, however after reading the w6 posts on here I realised that I might be setting myself up for a fall πŸ˜• Maybe I should've had two days rest and run tomorrow but it is such a lovely day and the dogs needed a run that I decided to go, bleeeurgh.....knee hurt, calves stiff, breathing rubbish and time never ending πŸ˜” Both dogs decided to poop at every opportunity πŸ’©(Which they never normally doπŸ™„) Which meant I had to keep stopping to pick it up and losing my pace, and as I was later than normal (it is Sunday after all!) there were lots of other people and dogs and bikes to sniff and annoy (the dogs not me😳), but hey ho, it's done and when I checked my steps/distance I had actually done more than ever so maybe it's just the recovery after the big w5r3 and the mental challenge of the stop/start run/walk again? Anyway looking forward to two 10 min runs on Tuesday and onwards and upwards.....getting there!πŸ€—πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ‘πŸ» Am doing knee strengthening exercises and runners yoga stretches to help with the aches and pains πŸƒβ€β™€οΈβœŒπŸ»

  • What are the knee strengthening exercises? I've always had dodgy knees and even at this early stage of W3 I start to feel my knees

  • Looked on you tube for videos going to do first one now, also Pinterest - search knee strengthening for runners, yoga for runners

    I have to be careful as I can't do anything that means kneeling or balancing on top of my left knee as it hurts so much but apparently it's all about strengthening the muscle groups that support the knee joint, quads, hamstrings etc

  • Cheers. Will have a look at that. YouTube has moved on a bit since it was full of videos of everyone's cats

  • This will also make your running stronger as you will have the strength, support and stability in your legs to push off harder getting a better strideπŸ˜€
