I need someone to give me a big kick up the backside. Really finding it difficult to motivate myself this week I am dragging myself out and feel great when out bit I don't have the same enthusiasm as I have had in weeks 1 and 2.

Why did you start?

What are you hoping to gain from running?

Has your situation changed since starting?

I can get brutal, if you really want me to, but honestly, if you can't be bothered, then it is very unlikely that you will continue to run when the programme gets more challenging or when the weather gets colder.

Motivation is your department. We can offer advice and support, but we can't make you get out of the door. You have to want to do this.

For many of us, learning to run has been one of the most empowering processes that we have undertaken, transforming our fitness and mental well-being, making us happier and healthier. Yes it is hard work at times, but most worthwhile things require some effort to achieve.

Go on, you know you want to.

Well... IannodaTruffe has said it all...but... if you are asking for a kick to get you out there..then you really do want to do it... so pick up you running shoes.. mojos and motivation tend to hide under there.. and just get out and do it :)

And remember you say you feel great when you are out so don't let your lack of motivation (lazy streak?) deprive you of something you enjoy.

Feeling all sorts of negative stuff because you do not run

Or

feeling all sorts of negative stuff because you could not run.

Second one is FAR more preferable ;)

Running is a habit - unfortunately the 'addiction' takes a while to build up. It's certainly not the Crack Cocaine of the exercise world :)

The very hardest part is just putting on the gear and the first few steps out the door. The Run will take care of itself - might be 'success' run, might be 'practice' run or very rarely might be 'just do not want to do it - today' run.

The only thing a 'kick up the backside' ever motivated me to do was strike back at whatever was causing it - 'instant and defiant refusal to abide by whatever' LOL :)

Motivation these days comes from feeling great, looking far more fit than I ever have and just being able to escape into my own little (but rather bizzare) world when I hit the groove out there :)

Remember - all you have to do is suit up and show up - the running will take care of itself :)

Kicking bunny reporting for duty. W3 is a serious one, it's when you start running for minutes and that can be tough to take. So go and park the meh, give it a damn good kick, put your trainers on because that's where our running mo jo tends to hide out.

The mo jo can be shy in the early weeks, but keep taking him out of the house and he rewards you with great feelings of achievement. Dump the meh, and embrace the mo jo.

I remember Laura saying something like 'the satisfaction of getting through a difficult run outweighs the effort of doing it' and that's always helped motivate me even after graduating. Think 'how will I feel about myself if I just give up? Surely getting out and running is better than that?'

Also, try setting mini goals. Instead of focussing on graduating, just focus of finishing each week and maybe give yourself a (non food!) treat?

Pushing yourself to do this will make the rewards even better when you finish🙂

Thanks everyone I do really want to do it I love the feeling when I'm out running and also the rest of the day knowing I did it just the few min leading up to it but I will power through and give myself a slap if I hesitate going out as I have a goal of running a 5k for charity and I want to run not walk like normal.
