Progress after C25k

I "ran", well actually walked most of my first C25K on the 23rd April this year. After watching the Mind over Marathon documentary on the BBC, I was motivated to try and get fit.

I had a set back at week 4 when I injured my ankle and I came very close to throwing the towel in at that point. However, my husband convinced me to sign up for the Run Norwich 10k instead, which I did never really believing I would be taking part.

After two weeks rest and ice (thanks to Oldfloss advice) I was back on it and stuck to the plan. Some weeks were harder than others but any run is better than no run.

I graduated on 18th July and since then have run 2/3 times a week, trying to add 1k distance per week on my weekend run.

I have never been one for goals, particularly a physical one but for some reason I was determined to run the Norwich 10k. It's amazing how a deadline can focus the mind on what needs to be done.

So this morning I did it! 10k without stopping in 1hr 13 mins and was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had.

I have not posted this because I want lots of "well done" but to simply show that the C25K programme works. If you are at the early stages and it's feeling hard - stick with it! You can do it! I have enjoyed (almost!) every minute of it and hope that this is now a habit for life. At the age of 42 I am the fittest I've ever been. The challenge now is to maintain it.

Fabulous .... a great achievement which I'm glad you've shared. I loved reading your post as it resonates with my own running journey so far and I'm the same age. I've signed up to run a local 10K next year as I fully believe that a goal will motivate me to continue running. This programme is challenging at points but it's made me address my health which I'm grateful for😊
