Well done, and welcome to the start of this....... but, ( there's always a but isn't there?) and the replies you get will reflect this... if you ran today..then tomorrow is a rest day.. :)

Lots to do on your rest day!

Strength and Flex, Core strength and Stamina exercises, walking , swimming, cycling, climbing.. anything you fancy as long as non-impact.

.. and our Rignold 's squats always feature... :)

The rest days, even at this early stage, with short sessions of running, and with a reasonable or good level of fitness..are paramount.

Lots of reasons for the rest days, our running legs take time to build, as one of our awesome runners on here tells us... IannodaTruffe made the point, also.. that, when you run your muscles suffer micro tears. These repair and strengthen on your rest days, not while running.

Checking your past posts, ( you were going to start a while ago?)... but I assume you started this today, but you will have read previous posts, so you know that this is the form...:)

Keep posting anyway... great to have you here :)

PS

If you ran yesterday.. yep you're fine to run tomorrow:)

Hey oldfloss,

Thanks for the insight, well about a week ago I joined the gym and aim to go 2 to 3 times per week, as I also work as a nurse so (quite a physical job) I burn around 500 cals on average each visit, and I Eat around 1,500 cals per day too which I calorie check πŸ”₯

So I do like to go "all out" but I'm at the gym again tomorrow as my day off from work so thought it would be an ample opportunity to carry out day 2 do you think that's wise? Also just so you know after I did day 1 I continued in the gym doing my usual, walking at speed on treadmill for 20 mins, and then 25 minutes on cross trainer And then finished with 10mins on the bikes, so I still had more than enough go in me to continue after a run?

Thanks again 😊

Blimey I am going all queasy thinking about that regime... are you sure you're not an Olympian in disguise? Well done though on joining the nicest running club in the world. I hope you enjoy it as we all do (mostly)

Hello and welcome. Well done on starting the programme.

Please take the advice and take your rest days.

I understand what you are saying that you do other exercise too, but running is a specific set of muscles, and is high impact. You therefore need to build those running legs sensibly, not 'all out' zero to hero.........that is a sure way to the injury couch. If you have the energy after each run then cycling , walking, strength training, swimming will all use a different muscle group so should be ok!

Enjoy but slow and steady with those running legsπŸƒπŸ»

Hey Jacs,

Thanks for the tip and help with this - but I must admit you are so right! I should calm down a little, basically so you get a better picture this is my typical exercise day, so I start with 24 mins on cross trainer (skiers thing lol), then I do 20 mins walking 🚢 uphill on treadmill, then I would complete my run πŸƒ so let's say umm 20-30mins then I would do a final 10 mins on the exercise bike, and finish off with some weights but only about 10 lifts (not heavy mind you)

Very impressive....but always run one day, dont run next day...thats your running rest day and is required in the programme. Feel free to do non running related exercise... but as your runs get longer you may have to have a rethink on that.

Thank you I am trying πŸ’ͺ

Ok, maybe I shouldn't run tomorrow then because I did complete first run today.. only thing then though as I am

Back to work on wed and thurs my next run wouldn't be until Friday is that to much gap? Thanks again Jacs very helpful indeed πŸ™ƒ

Friday is fine, we all have to flex somewhat to accommodate life. An extra rest day is much much much better than no rest day. Take care of yourself as well as taking care of those people you nurse!

Again your so right!

Gosh - right ok, I'm taking your advise and going to run on Friday - tomorrow I will still go to the gym as scheduled but no running I will walk uphill πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ thanks!
