Parkrun

I have a few friends doing parkrun and am interested in going but I'm doing really well on my own with my headphones.

Is it bad form to run in a group with headphones in? I'm worried that if I go for it without Laura in my ear I'll either do too much too soon OR not quite push myself far enough.

I have taken my headphones to Parkrun and others do too. Just be aware of being able to hear what's going on around you when you are running In a group. I know my headphones don't block out too much but some do. Good luck🙂

No, it's not bad form (IMHO) There are plenty of people who use headphones at my ParkRun so I wouldn't worry about it. That's the thing about ParkRun- it's an informal, inclusive event so people do whatever they're comfortable with and if listening to Laura helps you get round then that's what to do. I always just trot along in my own little world anyway (as the friends I go with are much better runners than me) so I don't think anyone would care if I had headphones or not, but ParkRun is definitely a great habit to get into.

Thanks guys. Now I actually have to drag myself out of bed on a Saturday and try it... On a Saturday!? Runners are an odd breed!

I know it's a thought, but just think how virtuous you'll feel when it's done and dusted. Plus most ParkRuns go for a cup of tea and sometimes even a bacon roll afterwards, so there's always an incentive :-)

I did! I started doing Parkrun at w6 listening to c25k, but be very aware of the marshall's and what's going on around, do it! 😊

Thanks guys. You've eliminated all my excuses so I'll have to make an effort to go this week.

I love parkrun, my only regret is I didn't go sooner! I like my music, I tend to have just one earphone in so that I can hear the volunteers and thank them, plus, my local is a course that you do get lapped on by the racing snakes, so we maintain a 'keep left' to allow the quicker ones to pass, and I like to be able to be aware of who's around me, especially as we share the park with other users.

Just relax and enjoy! You'll love it I'm sure........then you'll be hooked!

Plenty of people use headphones in Parkrun.

I used to use them in both ears, then when we moved to a new Parkrun :-( with 3 laps and overtakers on quite a narrow track, I opted for just one earphone in to let me hear the quick runners coming up from behind me.

And now, I never wear any on Parkrun, let's me chat to people (well grunt would be a more accurate word than chat)

This is my first post! I am about to do Wk5-1 tomorrow and agreed to do a park run with my sister on Saturday. I can't believe i am running, and enjoying it. Brought some new, and proper running trainers today. I will do the park run to Wk5-3 and will walk except for the 'long' run...hope to do it in about 35 minutes - but have no idea really. btw, i just turned 60 so i don't know why its taken me so long. the investment in new trainers will keep me motivated as i don't want to waste my money.

any advice for a first park run or week 5?

Congratulations on your first post and making it to week 5. Welcome to the C25k family!

Week 5 wise, my key advice is don't panic! You've made it this far, from what I've read from others and found for myself, this programme is designed really well. Trust the programme and yourself - you can do it!

As for Parkrun... I have a myriad of excuses to hand but the long and the short of it is... I'm too chicken!

Good luck
